Will this fork and bike go???
#26
Sounds like, the way he's going, he'll need a proper DJ (dirt jump) / freeride bike sooner rather than later. The website you linked to says his bike is for "recreational" use - IOW, not what he's doing with it.
All I can say is, good luck with it, hopefully he'll learn as fast as he heals.

He probably will but we don't really have that much money, we are going to see how this bike goes, none of the other parts have failed him yet and they seem to be pretty decent. Brakes seem absolutely fine, they will stop the wheel dead. The only let down is the front fork. I think I am probably going to just find another fork rather than bothering with adapters!!!

Oh right, made the same mistake again!!! My son's friend's fork is a RST omni 191. I have seen many bad reviews about how sticky it is but I think it is probably better than the stock fork. I think it also has IS brake mounts. Maybe if we keep it well oiled it may be OK? I doubt it can be much worse than the stock fork!!!

Maybe not worse, but not any better either - don't waste your money. Have you looked at forks on Ebay? Check this out. It has the IS disc mount, 28.6mm stanchions (same as the Dart), 100mm travel. You'll pay more for the shipping than for the fork itself, but I think it's still in your budget. I'm recommending it because I just bought one of these for one of my "guest" bikes and IMO it's a better fork than that price would suggest. BTW, it's an auction listing, but this seller keeps selling and relisting the same items, so eventually you will get one for the opening bid.
Obviously if you find something in your region it'll be way cheaper, but I didn't see anything today on ebay.uk.

Thanks, that looks like a good fork at a good price!!! I think we will try the omni 191 for a trial. The guy said we could trial it, if we like it we could have it for next to nothing (@£10). Which isn't a bad deal. However, those forks do look good and if posting isn't too expensive, I will probably get them! Thank you very much.

Bikes: Bike list is not a resume. Nobody cares.
A word of caution: RST Omni is NOT a jump fork. There are two axioms at play here: 1) Don't buy a used jump fork - - they get abused and stressed to the point of making them inadvisable to buy in any instance; and 2) NEVER buy a fork that has been jumped if it's not a jump fork.

* Steering tube is cut and mightn't be long enough.
Check with sellers to make sure they have IS mounts, it looks like they do but check anyway.
