29er 2.35 Big Apples. ?tire squirm if mounted onto WTB speeddiscs?

hi. First off: I'm probably going to find out for myself in not very long. But I need to tension up the rear wheel which I'd like to mount the Big Apple onto, so I thought maybe somebody would have an opinion in the meantime.

I bought some Salsa Gordos and built up a front with that and put a 2.35 Big Apple on there. It's good. I've yet to build up the matching rear, mostly because I built up another rear around a Surly 135 O.L.D flip flop and a WTB Speeddisc -- with this being my first fixed gear, I'm in no hurry to go back to a freewheel.

But I'm somewhat worried that the speeddisc is too narrow for a 2.35. and that it'll squirm when I turn. Particularly given that it'll in back.

Make sense? am I worried about nothing? will I tighten up the wheel, mount the tire and find out for myself before getting an answer?

In any case, thanks for reading.

well, the wheel's been tensioned and trued, somewhat. I'll must confess to being too anxious to get out and ride this weird0 karate monkey some more to really spend the long time my weak wheel building skills require for a really tight, straight wheel.

Shame that.

I'll say this for now though: the difference in tyre profile between the gordo wheel and the speeddisc wheel is truly remarkable. I'm sure that for AM use, riding on knobby tires, the increased contact patch of the wider rim would be an all-round winner. But for urban, mostly pavement and bike path use, excluding the possible tyre-squirm issue, the narrower, faster profile of the speeddisc could actually be better. Ironic given the rather hefty price difference.

Here's hoping the thing stays put in the turns.

IME, fat tires on skinny rims only fold over when you run lower pressures in 'em.

In any case, I inflated it fairly hard, and it worked beautifully. The rounder profile seemed to cut down on rolling resistance.

I guess the extra wide rims may have been overkill for my application.
