What a freakin' day.
I end up not getting out to ride for ~2hrs after I wanted to be out there. I finally get on the trail and proceed to have a front tire washout for seemingly no reason within probably 5 freaking minutes of being on the trail, and end up getting hurt more than I should have considering I was on flat ground going around a turn at no more than 10mph max. Then because I can't ride I decide to throw my bike back on the car and head out to do a little trail maintenance. Then I stop at Walgreens on the way home to pick up some more hydrogen peroxide to clean up my scrapes. Between the trail work and the stop at Walgreens, my mind was elsewhere by the time I got home and I ran my bike into the garage trying to pull in with the bike still on top. How the hell could I be that absent minded! Thank God my roof rack got bent up/broken for some reason and my bike seems to be fine other than a bent front brake disk. Yeesh. Haven't had a day go that wrong in a long time...

I had a close call on my way home yesterday...decided to stop & get some fast food on the way home & heard my bike scraping against the 'you're too tall for this drive-thru' pole. I had already ordered & didn't want to be a PITA by running inside so I dismounted the bike before proceeding forward. When I got home I noticed the only damage done by the pole was scraping up the handlebar. Close call.

Crappy day to the max. Sorry to hear about it. Those slow falls seem to be crazy with hurt. Heal up fast and kick that trails booty!

I think I'll be sitting out for a few more days, but I'll definitely be back out there shredding the gnar that took me out. The thing that's got me sitting out for a few days isn't the scrapes, but my leg. I ended up getting stopped by my thigh getting too friendly with a small tree as I was heading for the ground. It's now a deep muscle pain and I'm limping around everywhere. I figure I'll just use this time to groom a couple of the trails for when I'm out riding again.

That is a close one. You've got a lot more into your bike than I've got into mine, and even mine wouldn't be easy for me to replace. At least we both got away without our bikes getting hurt. Let's hope it teaches us to be more mindful of them in the future!

I think I'm sticking with my truck mount rack. These stories scare me and I know I would have to bang it against something stupid. OTOH both rear windows on our SUVs have handlebar scraps.

The only disadvantage is that I occasionally take my bike with me to school & hit up some trails on my way home or stop at a bar/grill for some beer & grub on the way home from the trails when I ride with a friend, & that extra security is great for peace of mind. I also keep all my gear in the trunk so I never forget it & I'd lose trunk access with a rack on it. It's a trade off, but probably my laziness will keep me from changing anything & I'll just try my hardest to be more mindful in the future.

^Haha, or just ever, as far as gambling is concerned. I went once, didn't have any big plans of going broke, so I gambled with $20. I think I did alright and played for a while, but eventually the roulette table did me in. I was $10^ at one point, though!
I liked it in the sense that there are basically no kids, everyone is just there to have fun, and you can walk around even to different casinos drinking a beer the whole time, and smoke a cigar in most of the places. Gotta love the positive attitude adults-only aspect of it.

I destroyed the frame on my son's vintage Olmo road bike using Doug's parking garage method.
Second time, the whole roof rack came off with 4 bikes on it. A few odd scrapes on one or two bikes, but thank god no frame crumpling. Oh, a small dent in the car roof. That was by hitting a motel check-in canopy at this place in Yakima, Washington.:

^ Oh no, not the irreplaceable vintage frame! I wish they would actually build some sort of crumpling action into the roof racks. When it comes to something like this, I don't give a **** about the rack - I want my bike to be ok!!! I'm Sooooo glad the bike tray got bent up and ruined and my bike is fine.
