oh fine
1. A bike that performs well, and can take abuse for its intended purpose.
2. Probably one word would be. Enraptured, becuase i get really into the mechanics of it.
3. Its hard to say, the guys i ride with are all the type who enjoy speed, going the hard way and 2 is good enough.
4. I always use google and this forums archives, i search for value, performance and various specs.
5. well SRAM but they don't make full bikes, just the components but it counts. Kona and specialized.
6. Specialized is nice, no expirience with a kona. But i hear people giving them a thumbs up.
7. Yes i would, but only if i have ridden it in person or i am totally 100% sure.
8. Of course, i HAVE to buy all of my components online, theres nowhere to buy parts here and its cheaper online anyways.
9. Mines a custom XC rig, i use it everyday for commuting, at leaset once a week on the trail, Im very happy with it. Still have a few things to upgrade. I will stick some picks in Post your rigs eventually.
10. XC, and i commute to school and the coffee shop.
11. Like i said, mines a custom build. I choose custom becuase i wanted to learn how the stuff worked myself, and since im in school i dont have much cash so it was easier to save up and buy, save and buy.
12. I was the biggest influence, i wanted more XC oriented wheels.
13. I use ebay for just about everything, I dont have to re enter my credit card all the time, its easy and i usually snag a good deal. Some people complain but you have to be smart about ebay.

1. Define what you think a quality bike is? A bike that can take a beating and ask for more.

2. What is one word that describes your perception of biking? Why? Variation. There are many forms of cycling.

3. What are three characteristics someone that bikes. Why? 1)None are the same. 2)Each has their own weaknesses. 3)Each have their own strengths. You can't put us all in one group, for example I'm known for freeriding more than xc, the next person who posts after me could be more known as a XC rider.

4. Where do you search and receive information on bikes? And what information do you usually search for? If I was to tell you where I get some of my information, bad things would have to happen to you. For general stuff, magazines, internet sites.

5. Name the first 3 bike brands that pop into your head. 1)Kona 2)Evil 3)Specialized

6. How do you feel about those brands that you named?
Kona: My personal favorite.
Evil:Great company that could be setting new standards for hardtails.
Specialized:Makes one of the best suspension systems out there.

7. Would you ever purchase a bike online? Why? Why not?
Depends on the area in terms of bikeshops.

8. Would you ever purchase bike parts online? Why? Why not? Yes, some parts you can get for cheap.

9. Tell us about your bike. (what kind? What brand? What model? How much? Color? Usage? Etc. We’d like to know anything you think about your bike.) 2003 Kona Stuff Olive Drab. used daily.

10. What type of riding do you do? Dirt Jumping, Urban, Stunts, steeps, trail riding.

11. Why did you buy your bike? And why did you purchase your bike over other bikes? (Please elaborate)I bought it because I liked the ride of Kona's dirtjump hardtails.

12. Who or what was the biggest influence on your last bike purchase?Myself, wanted to get back to a hardtail.

13. Everyone replaces their bike parts sometimes. How do you choose where to buy the parts? Why? If it is something specific I'll get it from a shop, if not I'll order online.

Now let me ask you some questions.

1)Once this is done, are you going to continue taking part in the discussions here?

2)What class is this for?

3)Is this really for a class?

4)Did you look in the post your rigs thread?

5)Did you read any of the posts with pictures in them?

6)Do you realize that we get asked these questions two, three times a week by someone who gets enough answers and never comes back?

7)Do you realize that some of the questions you have asked are very broad and are kind of the same at times?

8)Do you know it is also not a good idea to ask about how much one has put into ones bike?

1 - A balance between strength and weight. Too light and the bike is rendered a show piece, to heavy and you have the same thing.
2 - Passion
3 - Solitude - most of are individual, even when riding in groups we really ride alone
Passion - through it all you must suffer. The pain of climbing the hill, the pain of descending the hill. Both are related (even though most pick on side or the other it seems)
commitment - through it all, if you lack comitment you are goign to have issues mountain biking
4 - Some of my info is here or ridemonkey, but most is trial and error. For the most part bikes are truly simplistic devices, common sense rules
5 - Specialized, Kona and Transition
6 - Love them all. I ride them all and would continue buying their products for the intended purpose I prefer
7 - Yes. Not used, but I would do it because I understand my prefered geometry for different disciplines. As long as the company isn't lying the fit will be fine
8 - All the time. Cause they are signifigantly cheaper than an LBS and I know I will get them when I want them. Most lbs's here do not keep a good enoguh stock.
9 - Wow...which one. I have 3...to many details to go into, sorry.
10 - I have 3 bikes. Each have a purpose. Thats why I bought each. One without the other leaves a gap leaving me frustrated on the trails. There is no ONE do it all bike in my little world I trail ride (no xc racing AT ALL), dh and I guess some freeriding (I like stunts, but thats trail riding here)
11 - i am on my bike. The only thing I avoid is the road and wide track (rail to trail for example). Too monotonous for my impatient brain.
12 - Myself. I am influenced by no one. I analyzed pricing, fit, availability and then the company itself. That led me to my transition.
13 - www.bikeroom.com 90% of the time. Cheap, good service.

1. Define what you think a quality bike is?
A bike I will enjoy riding and will last me a long time.

2. What is one word that describes your perception of biking? Why?
Fun! Cycling is supposed to be fun, just like any other hobby.

3. What are three characteristics someone that bikes. Why?
umm, I'm not really sure... I would say adventurous(sp?), determined and fun loving.

4. Where do you search and receive information on bikes? And what information do you usually search for?
I search on these forums and on the net. Occasionally I ask Q's at the local bike shop. I generally search for info on equipment I plan on buying. Any durability issues, price, weight, things like that.

5. Name the first 3 bike brands that pop into your head.
Cannondale, Kona, Specialized

6. How do you feel about those brands that you named?
I feel they are good brands. Companies I would buy from.

7. Would you ever purchase a bike online? Why? Why not?
Possibly. If I was 100% sure of my size I might.

8. Would you ever purchase bike parts online? Why? Why not?
Yes, sometimes it's cheaper or the local bike shop doesn't carry that particular part.

9. Tell us about your bike. (what kind? What brand? What model? How much? Color? Usage? Etc. We’d like to know anything you think about your bike.)
Cannondale super v 500 - Cost: $500 Color: Dark Blue Usage: 10-12 miles every other day Type: Mountain bike
Bianchi Piaggio - Cost: $300 Color: Celeste of course Usage: 40miles a week, usually a wekkend ride Type: Road bike
Specialized E5 - Cost: $2800(my lifes savings!!! it was worth it though...) Color: Matte Black Usage: about 80 miles a week Type: Road bike

10. What type of riding do you do?
Road and Mountain

11. Why did you buy your bike? And why did you purchase your bike over other bikes? (Please elaborate)
Cannondale was a gift, no say in that. I bought the Bianchi because I liked the feel of it and it was dirst cheap for a bike with full Neuvo Record. The specialized I bought because the frame was a kick ass deal and the components I bought used over e-bay.

12. Who or what was the biggest influence on your last bike purchase?
Mainly me. My dad and uncle had a bit of say in it too.

13. Everyone replaces their bike parts sometimes. How do you choose where to buy the parts? Why?
I normally buy from a small shop near my house. It's a bit more expensive than the internet but I get to support a mom&pop shop and it's more fun to be friends with the people you're buying from.

12. Who or what was the biggest influence on your last bike purchase?
Wish to go faster on the Hills, and Tandems are fast. (Incidenatally they are fast ONLY when the pairing works. Finding that pairing is difficult and if the pairing Don't work, They are hard work)

Discuss With LBS as to what is required then haggle for price to get a good deal.

    Sweetness

    1. Define what you think a quality bike is? - one that is light, strong and not too expensive

    2. What is one word that describes your perception of biking? Why? - fun, because it is.

    3. What are three characteristics someone that bikes. Why? - likes the outdoors, friendly to other riders, is never fully satisfied with their bike. it's difficult to generalise but anyone who rides that i've met has those characteristics.

    4. Where do you search and receive information on bikes? And what information do you usually search for? - online, anything to do with cycling generally.

    5. Name the first 3 bike brands that pop into your head. - giant, specialised, kona.

    6. How do you feel about those brands that you named? - i would buy the first two and anyone i know with a kona is happy with it although its not my style of bike.

    7. Would you ever purchase a bike online? Why? Why not? - yes, last bike, cheaper than lbs, i checked it for size in my lbs though.

    8. Would you ever purchase bike parts online? Why? Why not? - yes, cheaper, you can read product reviews, generally a better choice than the lbs and less compulsive buying when online.

    9. Tell us about your bike. (what kind? What brand? What model? How much? Color? Usage? Etc. We’d like to know anything you think about your bike.) - giant XtC, good value, components aren;t great but frame is so in the process of upgrading, it's a nice geometry for me and looks good!

    10. What type of riding do you do? - xc

    11. Why did you buy your bike? And why did you purchase your bike over other bikes? (Please elaborate) - because its an xc bike, because it was the best value for money in my budget and i know people with similar giants who are very pleased.

    12. Who or what was the biggest influence on your last bike purchase? - myself, i looked into it and decided it was the right bike.

    13. Everyone replaces their bike parts sometimes. How do you choose where to buy the parts? - price, i generally buy online but sometimes you can get good deals in the shops too. depends on the part, i would generally only buy wheels from a shop so i can get them trued every now and again.

    1. Define what you think a quality bike is?
Light, strong, and fast. Comfort is important too but that's all rider preference.

    2. What is one word that describes your perception of biking? Why?
rush. There are so many types of riding but all of them give off a rush that makes you come back for more.

    3. What are three characteristics someone that bikes. Why?
Unique. Never satisfied with their performance (at least I'm not). Determined.

    4. Where do you search and receive information on bikes? And what information do you usually search for?
I talk to my lbs and check reviews at mtbr.com, bikeforums is generally pretty helpful as well

    5. Name the first 3 bike brands that pop into your head.
    Trek, specialized, kona

    6. How do you feel about those brands that you named?
I like trek & specialized, have never rode a kona but have heard rave reviews

    7. Would you ever purchase a bike online? Why? Why not?
Yes, I have. It was cheeper but I like to support the lbs when I can.

    8. Would you ever purchase bike parts online? Why? Why not?
Yes, I have. It was cheeper but I like to support the lbs when I can.

    9. Tell us about your bike. (what kind? What brand? What model? How much? Color? Usage? Etc. We’d like to know anything you think about your bike.)
    BIKE 1
Just placed an order for this one through the lbs last week
Bike: 2005 Trek 8500 frame, swapping parts onto it
Price: deal, sure it'll be worth every penny
    Color: black/grey
    Usage: will be used daily
    BIKE 2
    Bike: 2001 Specialized p.3
    Price: Cheep, got it online
Color: green w/ little metal flake
Usage: I get out on it about 2x a week

    10. What type of riding do you do?
I race xc, and like to fool around with most all other types of riding

    11. Why did you buy your bike? And why did you purchase your bike over other bikes? (Please elaborate)
I bought my bike because I felt that it would be able to handle the stresses that I put into it the best out of what the lbs had to offer.

    12. Who or what was the biggest influence on your last bike purchase?
I chose the bike myself, but lbs had a good $influence$ because they hook me up for wearing their colors.

    13. Everyone replaces their bike parts sometimes. How do you choose where to buy the parts? Why
I buy my parts at my lbs and replace them as they break usually.
