Rock Shox Pike vs Fox Vanilla.

Which would you pick for a 4-5" all mountain type fork? Seems they can both be had for about $400, and they're both getting good reviews. The fox seems to have a better history behind it than rock shox reputation, but the Pike is all new, so.... I dunno, what do you think?

both look like great forks. I don't think you could go wrong with either.

I would pick the fox since I seem to have a bias towards their products. When I was getting into riding I constantly heard "Fox is the best" so now I'm biased towards them.

You're right, Fox have a better reputation as the Pike is new this year but i've heard great things about they Pike and that they're better than Fox Forx. So i dont really have an answer for you.

Cummon All mountain riders, whats the answer?

I would go with the Rock Shox Pike, ive tested one out and thought it was very plush, stiff and tracks very well, although it is a new fork, and the Fox has its excellent reputation, Rock Shox seems to be churning out some amazing products this year, i would definately give them a go!

Either, or neither!

I like Marzocchi products better! My vote would be for a Z1!

Rock Shox has been making forks a lot longer than Fox has damn good ones too. Fox came on the scene much later and started producing an excellent fork. RS has a fine reputation as far as I'm concerned and I wouldn't hesitate to get either.

All other things being equal (although they never are!), I'd opt for a Fox, over a RS fork. I've owned several of both brands, and I prefer the Fox stuff. Generally speaking, the steering is more precise, and the quality seems better with the Fox stuff. However, I've not ridden the new Pike, so take my comments with that in mind.

Good luck!

Deffinetly FOX I have a bike crazy uncle, he really knows his stuff, he says Rock shox is ok though. Isn't FOX made in the US? I think RS is made somewhere in China....

I have changed my mind, I'd go for a Pike. But if you go for a Fox, its still gunna be an awesome fork.

I find that hard to believe. Your bike came with RST which isn't even the same ****************** company! So remedial

I find that hard to believe too. Even the Pilots are too good for wal-mart bikes. I reckon he's thinking RST too Raiyn.

This is exactly why I am the way I am. I hate pretenders. If you don't know that's cool, I'll help you learn, but DON'T ************* pretend. I've got no tolerance for that crap

The 1999 Jett C was the base model and came with 45mm of travel which is nearly 2 inches. I should know because I have a modified version of this fork on my commuter bike

okay, maybe you're french! but when someone says "like" its an estimation. i dont know the exacts because i dont like the fork! so im not gonna waste time on it! it bottomed out when i was 5'5 and weighed 190! it flexed like richard simmons! its crap! especially on a "mountain" bike! ( yes, i know you're from florida so don't correct the french thing) chill the hell out! the only people who act hard are the ones who lack confidence! have you met zapata espinosa ( i hoped i spelled that right) the dudes cool, calm and wont jump on your back over something he doesnt know all the facts about! ( he does a hell of a lot of promo, thats how i met him. at a sobe freebie stand in... park city, i think. i only talked to him for like a minute so dont think im dropping names, he wouldnt know me from adam!) and im sure he knows a hell of a lot more than you! sheesh!

Given the level of smoke you've tried to blow up our rears in your past posts I don't think I'm too far off base.

What he may or may not know is far from the issue here. I can drop names too.
I've met Ernie Banks. Does that make me an expert on the Chicago Cubs?

I've met Jason Mews (Jay of Jay and Silent Bob). Does that get me a free pass on the set of a Kevin Smith movie? Hell No.

You've been making conflicting statements since you've got here (You want a "slalom type bike" but you don't want a "quick turner".)
You try to talk the talk but I doubt you walk the walk. If you want real help I'll be more than happy to help, but you've GOT to stop fronting.

Anyways, Id go for the Pike. I hear fox is good, but something about them makes me feel as though theyre those "precise" but sensitive fork which could die if you abuse them a bit. I'm not saying this is factual, correct me if I'm wrong. But I do hear quite a bit about fox seals blowing. Pikes been good from what Ive heard, so far.

i said i dont need a quick turner, its not a priority of course i'd prefer one. i have never acted hard. i just dont give a ****, that means i act lazy. i have never bragged only asked AND responded to questions. jason mews is an ass. you act like a sex deprived 40 year old magic card player. CHILL. THE HELL. OUT. you have a stroke if some one says an old cheap fork has an inch less travel than it does! who cares! i didnt say i was an expert because i met a "legend" i said i know MY stuff. i also fix my stuff. a lot a people here do. its a bike its not that hard! the jett C is an elastomer fork, how do you modify an elastomer fork? rubber bands? back off all of us we dont "front" we just like talking about the cool stuff in cycling. if you know stuff share it, if you dont or if you disagree. fine! just respect us when you do.
