Skate helmets and summer time

I got a skate helmet this summer. I love it, more comfortable than my XC helmet. My question is, it doesn't have lots vents like the XC helmet so does it breathe well or will it suck monkey ba!!s?

I doubt it'll breathe well. But, if you ride in skate parks, you probably wont ride for as long at a time, so you can take it off when you're resting or something.

Bikes: Bike Count: Rising.

Depends on the helmet, if it's the Giro Hemi, you will have plenty of ventilation.

I sweat a lot no matter what I'm doing, and the skate helm doesn't help. So really, my 21 vent xc helmet barely helps the situation, compared to my 6 hole skatehelm. yeah, the 21 vents help, but I always sweat a lot anyways, as I said.

I wonder if skate helmets offer the same level of protection while cycling that bike helmets do. I've noticed that the big $ helmets have much better ventillation (more and bigger holes and better shaped ones at the back to draw air). Since I've been willing to buy helmets is the $120+ list price range, my head has been much cooler. That's very important here on the gulf coast where we get temps in the 90's with very high humidity.

I go with the road helmets as I don't like visors.

I suspect the cheaper helmets are safer as they have more material.

Quite easily. I might say that they're stronger, just because their shell is usually harder in the first place, like a full face's helmet. However, it's not as vented and all. Generally, skate helms are good for djing, better than xc, I think.

Bikes: Ritchey P-series prototype, Diamondback, Nishiki Triathelon Pro.

Don't buy a black one for summer.
From Pro-Tec, I use the BMX lids, not skate.

they all have to pass the same tests...a 40 dollar helmet is just as safe as a 100 dollar one, the 100 dollar one is just usually lighter and more vented.

I have a black BMX helmet and it did just fine. its not as hot in the trees as it is on pavement for one thing. for another I widened the vents a little on the inside and it flowed well enough( I looked at the expensive helmets and shaped the vents accordingly with a Xacto knife). I rode in the heat of the afternoon when the heat index was above 110 and I didnt have any more problems than with the previous many vent bell helmet. I got a Tbone now but only for the light weight and price. I rode with my old melon bucket the other day and it was no warmer than the Tbone in 25 deg. weather. the skate/BMX helmets are usually multi impact capable. one difference between cheap and pricy helmets is the crash replacement warranty. the good ones usually replace them for free for a time then partial price after a certain time where as the Walmart Bell helmet is landfill food after a crash.
