Been out riding a lot these days

Hey everyone,

Haven't been posting for a few days (or a week, I don't know) but I've been riding a ton. Found some new friends on dropmachine.com, a site more dedicated to those in canada and in ontario.

My friend allan, and I have been doing a lot of drops and he's given me a lot more confidence to do stuff.
Now, I can do 4 and 5 footers, with ease, before I was a little uncertain about them, but did them. Every now and then I would wipe out. Also, allan gapped this 12 step staircase over 6 feet in height over, around 6-8 feet in length. It doesn't look like he made it accross the stairs, but rest assured that he did.

Nope. We have the same bike, he has different grips, a deore rear, no front derailler. I got golden flat head screws that paved a bigger path into my odis, and they work really well. I think its 6-32 x 3/4 or something. its a cinch wider than my odi screws.

Probably not. Unfortunately a failure of his lockrings could cost him pretty badly, like Max X list badly.

You sure raiyn? I'll question that considering these aren't bigger, the tread is. I have not gotten a hex set yet, because I'm not paying 11 + tax for a 2.5 mm key. You get too picky. In the end, I doubt they'll pop. We'll see. OH yeah, only 1 side of each grip is mod screwed.

Where the hell would you pay 11 bucks for a hex key?? They are 50 cents at the hardware store I work at

Just go buy yourself a folding tool for 10 bucks...

And what are "treads" on a screw?

or, you could always grow a pair and muscle on some new grips....it makes you one with your bike.

I get too picky? Just where do you think the threads of your new screw go? If they're coarser (as I think you mean) they dig through the threads already there making a weaker connection due to the fact that the metal has already been cut making it more prone to failure. If they are in fact a thicker screw then you run the risk of weakening the ring by placing undue stress on the material. Do us all a favor and go buy a set of conventional grips and a can of spray paint, it just seems that the lock on kind are beyond your capabilities

Oh great. I get pwned for saying tread instead of thread. Yeah, I realize my thread about odi was stupid, but I'll check for "failure" okay? I'll see how long this pair will last. Give me a time these will fail around, raiyn. I ride 3-4 hours a week, do about 1-5 foot drops urban, and can't hit the trails. Rough estimate, I'll see how these last.

As for being beyond my capabilities, well, I don't want to pay 10 bucks for a folding tool for a 2.5 mm. No hardware store remotely close to me sells individual hex keys. I'm very capable of getting these tightened man. They just got loose somehow, and I had to do and undo them with a 2.3(some digits go here, don't want to check out a conversion site). It worked, in fact, I got the rounded screw off. I'm skilled enough to get 4 really really tightened screws off, only rounding one, wiht a 2.3 something something mm hex key. I don't think ODI grips are beyond my capabilities, getting those on with 2.5 is easier than 2.3. It's only beyond my wallet.

That stairset isn't 6 feet high. It's about 4. I've added some marks to your image. There's one on the wheel. That one is 26" high, because that's how big the wheel is. I took that one and copied it two times and put it up against the wall, so you can see how high 26 inches and 52 inches are on the wall. Then I drew a line that goes striaght across the wall from the top of the stairs. You can see that it's lower than the 52 inch mark. That stairset is about 4 feet high. If you think that it's 6 feet hight, that means the "4-5 foot" drops you've been doing are probably more like 3 feet.

Hey Maelstrom. Last time I checked 4 of those stores, they didn't sell indivudual keys. Only in 7/8 sets per multi tool.

BTW, Raiyn because I don't take that pic seriously, that's very funny.

Yeah...that is 6 feet. Come by, when you stand, that thing is taller than you (unless youre taller than 6 feet). AS for 4-5 foot drops, yeah, I drop close to my height. That thing is at least a foot higher than me, dude. There's an angle to that pic.

Glad to hear you've been riding rather than just arbitrarily removing and installing your grips, hoolie. Good for you.

Stair drops to flat are almost as pointless as arguing about how tall they are.

And might I mention you got

4 of 20. Thats fine but 3 of the ones in Vancouver do, as do all the bike shops, home hardware, even the little mom and pop shops and heck even 711. Just pointing out that your said situation seems impossible. Unless ontario is having a hex key shortage.

Btw congrats on riding more, thats good stuff.
