Has this happened to anyone?

Out riding on the flat and went over a elongated speed bump at normal speed and as i went over this happened and i was thrown off. Really hurt as well lol. Got a fractured shoulder but was wondering how common it is.

Please clarify. Riding in a flat area, or riding on a flat tire?

ouch!! has never happened to me...I would tend to believe there was some structural damage already and the angle/bump just caused it to go. Glad your not hurt worse. Was the wheel true no spoke tension issues or bad wobble before the failure?

I second Skol's comment. There had to be some preexisting damage or structural defect. I'd definitely complain to the rim manufacturer and demand an explanation and free replacement the rim and any damaged accessories. If they refused, I'd consider pushing for medical expenses plus pain and suffering.

good on the helmet I also had a bad crash last year that my helmet probably saved my life. If you bought new I would take it into the shop/store or where ever you got it as it might be a defect at a seam and possibly get some sort of reimbursement or at least a good explanation etc..or contact the wheel manufacturer for input. Its strange it seems like it gave out from the inside out not typical of a impact failure

I agree with the return to the shop where you bought it. That's a serious defect that had to pre-exist. The only time I saw anything close to what happened to you was when a friend took a Mongoose dual sus with single wall wheels on the Harris Lake trail. Bike only lasted about 2 miles when he took a log and that toasted the rear wheel, taco'd really bad. But I think we can all understand what happened there, your situation is worse.
Let the shop see it and see what they say.
You didn't say what brand of bike it was. If it's a major player, they will be interested in getting the bike back and may make you an offer to your liking.
