I finally got a decent trip in. Rode from North Salt Lake out to Antelope Island and stayed the night. About 45 miles from driveway to campsite. The ride out was nice. I left at 6:00 am and didn't really get hot until I was climbing the hills up to the visitor's center. I was pulling my kiddie trailer with camping gear. That made for slow going on my already slow full suspension knobbed tire mountain bike.

The island was cool. errr.. I mean hot. Bugs galore during the afternoon and early evening at camp. But the payoff was an amazing sunset and gorgeous sunrise.

The plan was to ride back to Farmington and up Farmington Canyon for another night and return home via Skyline drive. But the temp was just too hot and my body was just too tired. So when the wife and kids came out to see me this morning, we drove to the Farmington Ponds for a bit and then I called it a day and called it a trip.

I'm in Farmington. Just picked up my first road bike ( and first bike in like 15 years). Once I get in a little better condition and comfortable on my bike, let's ride. There's some guys in my neighborhood (Hunters Creek development) who ride. I need to hook up with them too. I picked up a Fuji Sagres SP, great condition. This looks like a good site. I've learned a lot already.

So, I'm working my way up to ride to Antelope Island. I see that its $6 for cyclists. Where do you pay that fee? Do you pay before you get on the causeway or at the end right before you get on the island? I'm in Farmington and have reached the end of Gentile Street so far. I road 20 miles this morning roundtrip. I think its about another 5 miles from the end of my ride, where I turn around and head home, to the edge of the lake where you'd get on the causeway. Any info anyone has would be great!

Yeah, you pay at the shack. They charged me $9. But that was applicable to the camping fee of $12. The causeway is about 7 miles. Then on the island there are paved roads with some climbs. It is well worth riding up to the restaraunt thing. Kinda steep, but the view is awesome. Looking east from there you might see some bison or antelope. I also recommend taking something to cover your nose/mouth with. The bugs can get pretty bad.

I was at work today,, driving the ...truck down the freeway out North past Layton and noticed on one of those new bridge wall things at the side of the freeway they got a pic of a bicyclist in the rock, in fact a few of them, I guess there is some good.

Yesterday was about as good as it gets! Bright sun, crisp air, hardly any wind. Just got my bike back from a tune-up, running beautifully. Packed a lunch and ate it in a park, while reading the City Weekly and watching the birds and squirrels. I love retirement! Only thing that could have been better is if my hard-working friends from this forum could have played hooky from work and joined me!

I was installing card readers and can lights all day at the hospital. I hope some of them work when they heat them up. If they don't, at least they're pretty.

I bought some crappy lights, as the days will be getting shorter, and colder. I wonder if I'll ever really use them. I have this thing about the cold. The cold is too cold for me. I love Salt Lake, but not in the winter, fall or early spring. I need to put on some weight anyway.

Hey Al! Get some fenders, some long johns, a pair of gloves, a ski mask, and join me! We'll enjoy suffering together, along with Nycycle. I've got a new mountain hard tail on order, should be here Monday or Tuesday. I'll switch the fenders and lights from the wallyworld bike onto it, and it will be my new winter rider. Just be careful on the ice and the packed snow. You can't have too many lights (unless the bike gets too heavy to pedal)

Oh, so what kind of bike did you get? My mountain bike is seeing a lot of urban action these days. I just threw some slicks on there a while back. If it gets too treacherous I'll have to throw the knobbies back on.

Got a Trek hard tail. Model 4300. Available in two colors, Putrid Orange/Silver, or Tacky Silver/Black Chrome. Mine is the silver/black model. I figure I'll be looking at the trail ahead, not the bike, and if I never wash it, it'll soon be a nice earth tone.
Yes on the knobbys, you'll sometimes wish for studs or chains, too. The mosquitoes will be gone, so you won't have to try to outrun them. Speed is not your friend when riding on ice!

Alrighty then, I will just play hookie from work and ride, I wish I could pack enough food and drink to ride Skull Valley, from Dell to Fish Springs, Hastings Pass and the like, Two Rocks and all. Any place but north on the parkway.

I rode the Jordan River Trail from Gardner Village to 2100 S for work. A Lot of people enjoying it.

Well since this appears to be resurrected, sorts...

I ride in the Ogden Valley pretty much daily. Today I put in a tad over 50 miles "testing out" a new to me 2003 Lemond Tourmelet. Felt so good to be back on a steel bike again.

This thread doesn't seem very active, but maybe we can change that.

I'm most like a commuter if one has to be put in a box. My most common ride is between home in Farmington and work in Kaysville.

Winter mornings sure can be beautiful from a bike. Though I do get a little miserable when it's around or below 20. Thankfully this morning was closer to 30.

I'll do my part. I ride to keep healthy and because I eat bad, LOL! Normally do at least 20 miles daily with twice that on the weekends. I don't usually stop riding outside just because winter is here. I actually have the winter biking thing pretty much figured out so even though I may look frozen I'm quite comfortable in temps well below 0.



What makes me uncomfortable are the terrible road conditions up in the Ogden Valley where I live. With all the taxes they charge us (all of us had our property taxes increased over 100% a few years ago) you'd think they could give us decent pavement.

And so glad to see winter coming to an end. :-)
