Terrible day in Utah today, I just hated it, I had to go to lunch with waldowales, then I had to ride my bike to the store for Grapefruit, Albertsons didn't work, so I had to ride to Harmons, HATING IT, accidentally went to far, oh that made me mad, Got grapefruit, It was terrible, the bike worked flawlessly, traffic was great, they even let me stuff Grapefruit in my back pack. went home. It was down hill both ways. Just Terrible
I wished I had somewhere else to go, maybe go see waldowales, ride to the store out by his place and see what they sell Grapefruit for. I need to do that, ride around to stores and look at Grapefruit.

For a Wednesday, this ones a keeper

Harmons had a Bike Rack!!!!!!!!
I used it but I prefer shopping cart racks.

Tomorrow we look at the weather report, if we got no wind or no rain, we will figure too many bugs for Antelope Island and go out west desert area.

Almost no bugs, Antelope Island is now on my list of places I been to, and did.
It is a bit sandy .
The views were worth the trip.

How much of the island did you ride? I'm heading out there in a couple of weeks.

Hold on, let me look at the map, we omitted one part, we omitted the East side of the White Rock Bay Loop.
a bunch of boy scouts told us it was too sandy.
The bugs never came out till about 1pm.
Pray for a breezey day, that will control the bugs. we hardly seen any, I did get attacked by one.
Take a camera, pack lots of water, and plan on some good climbs. The Split Rock Bay Loop is like 50,000 feet down, and back up again, there was 2 bison there. Elephant Head is the most fun of the whole place, a little technical, not just spinning the back wheel in the sand.

West Valley just re-paved some streets, they omitted bicycle lanes, 2700 West had them before.

On my Urban Assault Bike I traveled westbound yesterday coming back from the Hardware Store(Toilet sprung a leak) doing 28.6 MPH, I was in a 25mph zone.
Cars passed me only to cause me to to slow to stay behind them.

I think more folk need to see what they spend on gas in a year.

Sweet. I'll be biking there from North Salt Lake. I plan on spending a couple of nights. Hopefully that'll be long enough for any alcohol after effects to have subsided for the long ride home.

I am the Maint. Dude at our Church.
I told the Pastor I can't afford the gas to drive the 454 so his wife will have to get used to my Pearl Izumis.
My hard Rock has a nice tool bag on the back, I am not used to riding in the dark, but I did enjoy the ride home tonight.

I hear you on this church maintenance thing. Got over twenty years in doing that, and I've grown to hate it!
I sure hope you've got lights on that thing. I don't want you to get squashed on the road before we even get to ride together!

Hey all.

My schedule has been bouncing around as we're flying late lately up at Hill airplane patch. On Wednesday I rode into work at 5PM. I took Harrison to 89, hopped on 89 heading south where I saw a roadie with a pack on his back going the other way. This takes my by Weber Canyon and those wonderful gravel pits, not to mention the climb. Then I hit what I think is just called 163 to Hill's south gate. I saw another roadie with a pack heading opposite me on 163. This is a 40ish minute gig punctuated by 8 flights of stairs.
My counterpart surprised me with one of the shop cameras. I was looking down as I climbed and heard him say, "You need to learn how to run with that thing." (cyclocross joke) As I looked up...snap....

Obviously if I came in at 5pm it's gonna be a dark ride home. 130AM temps had me suited up with my rain gear. There was a nice big moon but its light was blocked by mostly cloudy skies which made for very dark streets. Traffic was light, down to about 2 cars every few minutes. A couple of them slowed way down beside me, and I wasn't sure what they had on their minds. Next time I'm riding home this late I'll be taking Riverdale road where there's more visibility and alternate paths along the route. The wind was coming through Weber Canyon pretty good which had me leaning over pretty far to keep going straight.

My wife commutes to the north and on Tuesday she suffered front and rear flats due to goathead thorns. I run Schwalbe Marathon XRs on my cross bike which are pretty resistant to flatting. She's getting Conti TravelContacts put on her commuter bike tomorrow and they should do better than the Conti Town & Countrys that they replace.

Anyone else tuned in here commute to or around Hill?

Tailwinds,

Don't commute around Hill but you can usually find me somewhere just south in the Layton area. A couple of my routes have me up on 89, on to 163 or whatever that road is that goes by the south gate, down into Clearfield and back to Kaysville. Maybe we'll see you one of these days.

You rode up that mother of a hill across weber canyon? dang. Back when I was going to Weber State, I saw a dude on a bullet bike nearly slam into a semi getting blown across the lanes ala the weber canyon winds. I don't miss that drive for college, although I do miss that drive for hitting snow basin and powder mountain. Damn lift prices.

Some days are better than others. Just got over a nasty cold and getting back into riding. Did an easy ten miles yesterday, thought today would be a good day to find the connector from the Midas fish ponds on the Jordan Parkway Trail to where it starts again at 120th or so south. Doing great until about five miles out, cruising down 13th west, when I picked up a large sheetrock screw in the rear tire. Green Slime squirted everywhere, and I felt the bumps as the screw hit the rim, through the tire. Ripped up the tube beyond repair. Put in the spare tube and headed back, no way will I ride the Parkway without Slime and a spare tube. About a mile, and the rear flatted again. Oh joy, it was a torn stem! Rode four slow miles, leaning as far over the bars as possible, to unload the rear wheel. By the time I hit the bike shop for new tubes, it was too late to go again today. Yard work tomorrow, but Friday I'll try again. Wish me luck.

Rough deal Waldowales, Glad yur over the gomboo, I have been fortunate, no flats since I paid the extra $ for the Arma***** tires, but I haven't tangled with a sheet rock screw,,,,yet.
I am hoping to team up with you on that hunt for the south trail. Next month.

Yeah, I ride it fairly often. Normally Tues, Weds and Thurs. Sometimes I take Riverdale in the mornings to avoid the insane canyon winds. However, it's impossible to judge from my home, just a few minutes away. It could be dead calm at my place and insane at the mouth of the canyon. And for those that don't know, insane is the perfect word for what we're talking about. I've seen a Toyota Rav4 get blown right off the road after coming out from under the I-84 overpass. Semis have been blown over there as well.

My normal commute bike is the one shown in the photo and I run a Cateye LD1000 and/or a Planet Bike Superflash to make sure I'm seen from behind. I have four other bikes that I might be seen on. Sometimes with a rear rack and panniers but I prefer the backpack.

Tomorrow I'm riding up to Heber Valley to meet with a bunch of loaded touring pals in the Utah Bicycle Touring Society.

Have a good weekend!

I was just down there last week. Can you tell me how in the heck you get from the section that goes from 100th South or so to 114th South to the next section that is at about 116th? The trail ends at 114th and it looks like some neighborhood riding? I ended up getting back in the truck and going to 123rd South and then took that nice ride to 147th. Does the trail go any further south than that?

Sorry to hear about your tire adventure. I never ride the Jordan without slime. There's no better feeling than getting ready to pack it up and noticing a little slime on your back rack but your tire is still inflated. Then again, there's no worse feeling than getting sprayed with slime and still riding hoping it will seal.

Okay, here is how: Where the trail ends at the fish ponds, take the street a little south of the trail end, Chapel Ridge Drive. Follow it west until it hits Palisade Rim Drive, turn south west on Palisade to the first right, west to 13th west. South on 13th to Sirmingo Way, about 12000 south. Take Sirmingo east to Reeves Lane, north on Reeves to the only right there is. A short way east on that right you will see the entrance to the Parkway on your left.
Coming back, I like to stay on the east side of the river to the end of the trail, then south east a block or two through the subdivision on Allen Point Drive to 7th west, and north to the end, east to the Kmart, north to the end of Sandy Parkway, south on 7th half a block, and back onto the trail.
Written out, it sounds a lot more complicated than it is. Look it up on Google or Virtual Earth, it's really not that hard to find.
Or, contact me off net, I'll give you a phone number, and maybe we can ride it together. (If you aren't too fast!)

Nah, trail head is at Shields Lane, 10000 south, trail goes down to about 11400 south and ends by a couple of spring-fed ponds called Midas Ponds. I don't know who stocks the fish in it, but there are usually quite a few fishermen there. I've seen people catching small Rainbow trout. I'll show you when we do the ride. Looking forward to it!

I quit feeling sorry for my self(Lack of time to ride), I had 2 hours till time to get ready for Church, I headed for waldowales side of town, State is up hill for a ways there, from 48th to Winchester, smooth sailing after that, very few cars, I could have ridden in the middle lane, why I215 didn't look bad(Just Kidding Roger),, The old hard tail MTB just wont go fast enough, OH well times up, my computer says, so I headed home the shortest way possible 16.57 wonderful miles. May,,,, be,,,,after Church,,,,be hot, heat is OK.

I did it, heat was not the issue, that strong tail wind got real strong on the way back, I checked out the north Parkway too, still got that wall and no water, that I would drink, enough of that....
40.55 miles today , in two short bursts, today is a keeper. Now wife take me out to Olive Garden,,,
Oh life is rough some days.

Well I would have tried that today but I was racing the (%$*$&^$&$*() clock as usual.
How....ever, If,,, you don't mind, could we like do that after work one evening,**********?

I would like to see it a take a pic of you on it, then I will email you the pic, for my Birthday I got one of those Hi-Res digital camers that cost more than that bike you got, I will pad it up and take your pic,,, OK? I am glad I can get pics of grand kids and all in high res and I still shoot funer.... I mean weddings once in a while, but I sometimes wished I would have got the $100 camera and the new bike for less.
