NYC Central Park Loop - respectable time?
What's a respectable time for 1 loop around Central Park Loop?
Where is the best starting point to begin a time trial? Where I usually enter is at a grade.
Here's a speed chart from the New York Cycle Club:
4-lap time Speed (mph)
1:10 or less 22+
1:10 to 1:13 21
1:13 to 1:16 20
1:16 to 1:20 19
1:20 to 1:25 18
1:25 to 1:30 17
1:30 to 1:38 16
1:38 to 1:48 15
1:48 to 2:00 14
2:00 to 2:14 13
2:14 to 2:30 12
2:30 to 2:50 11

Well CP loop is about 6.1 miles. Assuming 6 miles, 20 mph average would take you 18 minutes. So that or less is good time. Only problem is the traffic there. You would have to be riding *really early* in the morning (5:30am) to have a clear road. You might see some others training there that you could hook up with. Its been a while since I've ridden there that early. Also, be careful in that you could get a red light ticket. I have seen others get that and a fixed gear rider getting a ticket for not having a brake in CP. I don't know where you got the times above. Are they for a partial loop?
Edit: I saw the chart here: https://nycc.org/rides I have commuted with 16 mph in the morning give or take. So the chart says that I would be comfortable with 1:30 (hour and a half) to 1:38. I originally thought that those were minutes and not hours.

The NYCC used to do timing laps in CP for placing people into their spring sig training groups. They now do them in Prospect Park as CP has gotten to be just too crowded. Even at 5:30 am it is crowded with groups training before work, and by 9am full of tourists.

I usually enter from 59th st since I live by midtown. But if you're trying to get the best times;
I'd recommend to start by Harlem Hill(110th st). This way you tackle the hardest section while
your legs are still fresh. But regardless of where you start/end; it doesn't change the elevation
profile.
