Are we allowed to bring bike into Port Authority terminal buildings on 8th ave? I'm going there to buy tickets and don't feel like lock it out of view in that part of the city. I assume it's allowed.

Yes, it's allowed. Not only can you bring your bike into the building, but if you don't it will definitely be gone when you come back outside!

Not only can you bring your bike into Penn Station, but you can also then bring your bike onto the train.

I've done Penn station with no trouble. Bikes are allowed on the subway and the LIRR allows a couple on each train when it isn't rush hour, same with the train heading north through Westchester.

Was just in Moynihan hall and saw two bikes. The question is, can you put a bike in the luggage car of an Amtrak train to Albany from NYC? Erie Canal........

If you add it to your reservation. Not all the trains going N have bicke racks in the luggage compartment. IIRC it's a $20 add-on for the bike.

Good to know, thanks. Would be ideal if there were an actual luggage car on the train. I have seen photos of them on some Amtrak trains. Using the racks they have in some of the luggage areas of the passenger cars is quite a production with removing all the panniers, etc.
