yup, and the bridge can kill if your gearing is dumb enough. Doesn't help that I need to lose 30 or so kilos.

jyossarian 05-01-09 04:53 PM

My friends have bagged because they're all wusses. I'll see yooz there.

noteon 05-01-09 05:40 PM

Have fun, all. My knee hurts and I'm one martini into the evening.

KitN 05-01-09 05:58 PM

I don't mind the rain as long as it's not coupled with cold weather. I can't take soaking wet AND cold. Yuck.

But what I'm worried about is lightning... I've got a 100% steel lighting rod under my butt. Me no likey lightning...

So is it going to stop by 10 PM?

Air 05-01-09 06:01 PM

Yup. And no lightning. Plus I'm bigger, more likely to get hit ;)

Nah, I'll probably get hit first. It's that metal plate in my head from 'Nam...

If I go, who's gonna be in back with me? It's gonna be dark and I might need to hold someone's hand.

we'll hang back with you - Air, you doing sweep?

jyossarian 05-01-09 06:41 PM

If you hang back, you don't get to enjoy dropping!

Ok! I'm on my way! See you guys there. :D

jyossarian 05-01-09 10:42 PM

Jeebus, that was the worst ride for me... My body just would not cooperate. Sorry. :(

I rode all the way to Brooklyn... There were some scary dudes smoking pot on the Manhattan Bridge trying to "rap" to me. Always a pleasure! :notamused:

Anyway, here's the water bottle holder that I mentioned: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...X0DER&v=glance

^^^ I want to clip it onto the back of the seatpost and when I fold it or lock my bike, easily take it off. What do you think?

noteon 05-02-09 04:49 AM

I don't know all your requirements, but I use the VIP Elite Bottle Cage Clamps, and they work very well:

Hi Noteon! How are you doing? :)

Thanks for the link. Yep, I was considering a similar solution but I would need a tool to remove the clamps to take it off when I fold down my bike. (I do fold my bike very often.)

pgoat 05-02-09 09:00 AM

Glad we got that ride in; small group and my ass was saturated five seconds after I rolled out the door, but I had a blast. Nice to meet you KitN, and glad you got home safe and sound.

These aren't meant to be removed at all; they just put mounting points where none exist.

jyossarian 05-02-09 11:05 AM

KitN, the one you linked too looks like it's supposed to mount to the handlebars. The clamp sits horizontally, like the handlebars, not vertically like the seatpost. If it swivels, it would work. Do you have room to mount it on your handlebars?

noteon 05-02-09 12:18 PM

If you can find the Twofish Quick Cage (I have the steel version), it works great:

http://www.nordicgroup.us/cageboss/#...The_Quick_Cage

I got mine from B-Fold. No idea whether he still has them in stock.

KitN 05-02-09 03:12 PM

Thanks guys!

@ Pgoat: It was nice meeting you too. :)

@ jyossarian: From the look of the picture, I should have enough room to mount it on my handlebars worse comes to worse. I prefer the seatpost mounting setup and it does look like the mount can be used vertically as well as horizontally.

@ Noteon: I went to David (Bfold) and asked him about a water bottle mounting solution. He only had some weird clap that would take a tool to get on and off and interferre with folding. He didn't have anything else when I stopped in.

I'm pretty sure I'll be ordering the one I linked to. Now, I just need an insulin drip to keep my blood sugar stable and I'll be set! :thumb:

KitN if you haven't already, try the energy gels. I like the power bar ones, but there are plenty of brands and flavors out there.

I find the gels much easier to take in while riding and they seem to kick in much faster than a bar. But you'll want water to wash them down and you need to use more for a given time period of exercise (the gels I've tried are usually about 100 calories vs. 200-300 for the bars).

noteon 05-02-09 04:22 PM

KitN, this is the Twofish cage I use:

http://www.google.com/products?q=two...l=en&scoring=p

They're secure and easy to remove. One wide Velcro strap.

Doing Prospect Park tonight or if anyone joining wants to hit the streets, I'll plan out a 20mile Manhattan/Brooklyn loop.

Air 05-14-09 07:39 AM

I'm MIA till after next weekend - organizing a huge memorial dancing service for Frankie Manning (21st - 25th).

Friday night though is Bridges by Night. Been wanting to do this ride for a LONG time and something always came up so I'm pretty psyched!

bigross1801 05-14-09 07:25 PM

where is the meet up spot?
