There absolutely will be. Maybe not noteworthy ones though
Hambone posted this which will probably be close to what they'll be doing.

So uh.....anyone have any bright ideas for me on how to get into the city in the AM for the 145 miler?
I am in Bridgehampton, way the hell out on the island. Is it possible I can take the train in that morning? from what I have read bikes are forbidden on the train.
I'd rather not have to rent a hotel room sat night. I'd much rather get up at 3:00 am Sun to get to penn station.
Thoughts?

I see multiple places in bold red lettering that says no bikes on trains 5/20.

Only eastbound - it's one train that they don't want 1,500 bicycles on. Later in the day from Montauk to the city same thing.

Q: What if I break down or can't finish?
We won't leave you in the lurch. Our "S.A.G." (Support and Gear) team is available to get you out of trouble. Use your cell phone (or flag down another rider) and call our S.A.G. service at the number printed on your cue sheet.
You won't miss the last train out of Montauk. Provided, of course, that you let us help you. Before the sun sets, we will sweep the route to make sure every rider gets to the finish line in plenty of time to catch the train.
Special note for the 145-mile riders: There is no S.A.G. service west of Babylon. If you need to end your ride before you get to Babylon, you can take the NYC subway or the LIRR going back to the city. This is the only exception to the LIRR "no bikes on trains" rule. You can retrieve your baggage from our office at Hostelling International, Amsterdam Ave. and 103rd St., Manhattan (phone 212-932-2300 ext. 115) during our regular office hours 7-9 pm Thursdays.

Ugh - at least it's 'few showers'. Too bad, the original forcast was 70's and sunny.

From NOAA:
Sunday: A chance of showers, mainly after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 64. Chance of precipitation is 30%
Sounds like pretty good riding weather to me.
Besides, if we start at 6am, how long after noon do you really plan to be on the road???

That's true, if I start at 6am, I should be in montauk by 11am anyway. 30mph, eaaaasy.

Oh damn, 30% humidity, I thought he meant 30mph tailwind.
Honestly though, if it rains, I'm not gonna risk screwing up my carbon wheels with sand and crap and not being able to stop so I'll probably bring the fixed gear, which is geared more for city riding. Plus I've been in vegas vegging out so I'm not in the best shape.

You're never in good shape....
I got a school thing on sun, so I'm gunna cut out early, so I'll ride out to Babylon from the n.y. start, turn around and ride back, Besides, i wasn't ready for a 160 mile ride, with finals coming up, I have not been riding much, and I too, am not in the the best shape. By June 2 I'll be ready for a speedy ride, I hope.

Also, In addition to not riding as much as I'd like, I haven't run lately either.
Hell, I was at the Floyd Bennett field race, but didn't race, and just took pics. Pretty sad/pathetic eh?

Watch slvoid finish at 11AM when starting at 5AM while some of us poor folks finish at 3PM while starting at 3AM.
How would you dress for this especially if it's cold in the morning? If I wear layers then at some point a layer has to come off and where would I put that without a bike rack?

WARNING: slvoid and Jimbo are sandbagging.
They'll run through this at 25+ mph while eating fried food and napping, while the rest of us suffer.
Make sure you guys say hi as you pass me. You'll remember me, big guy on the Cyclocross and I'll be wearing my bike forums jersey (although it may be under a jacket). And be nice, there are no hills on this ride to run away from me on!!!
I finally get around to doing the Montauk and it's ****ty weather. Oh well, a bad day riding is better than a good day doing something else.

Avatar, if you've got a light jacket you can always fold it up & stuff it in a jersey pocket.

As for the sandbagging comment, If one feels that I am sandbagging now, then I have honestly been sandbagging this entire year, so, all in all, I'm actually not sandbagging now any more than I have in the past few months! Its true!

edit: actually I forgot that I did 250 miles last week to prepare for the century. However, that doesn't count, two-fifty is nothing, for me!

Is sandbagging like taping it up for a night out in the meat packing district?
