Hey, finally I may be good to go too. I'm coming from Forest Hills Queens. Pain in the butt to get to the west side, but I did it a few weeks ago. I can do it again. Keep me posted on details.

Rode hard today - 38 miles with as much climbing in Inwood Park as I could find in preparation. Most of the time I looked down I was up around 17-20 but still only averaged 13. Those quick stops really eat into the average!

New handlebars should be in tomorrow. Very excited!

I could do Saturday, get to put some faces to the fake names on here

We have houseguests coming, but shouldn't be coming until evening... what time to start, and where?

Sunday is out for me, I have a wedding to attend, to my great disappointment.

Just say no the 5 Borough. It's not as fun as you are led to believe. Especially the Staten Island leg.

I prefer "butt crack early" Saturday, but I can be flexible. Married and chores to do. But she may give slack.

I found riding over the Verrazano one of the top 10 NYC experiences so far since I've been here! Not top five though.

^^ They don't ride over the bridge in the 5 Boro. They heard you onto the ferry. Usually not enough room for all the riders at once.

Where you starting from? I was thinking of a pre-5B ride but hadn't decided where. Leaning toward Ringwood, but Nyack would work too.

Just did the marshall ride for it this Saturday - we all rode over the Verrazano. *confused* Yeah, they'll be a backup at the Staten Island Ferry though they are adding more.

Bit of bad news - looks like ride yesterday wiped out my rear wheel. Wobbling a good inch or two in every direction. Good news is that my lbs just ordered me a handbuilt one yesterday (call that a preminition or what!) that will *hopefully* be here by Friday. Otherwise I'm screwed for Saturday

I know svloid is coming from Brooklyn, I'm right off the path at 36th St so I should meet you somewhere along the way on the west side unless you want to come up the east side and shoot across.

You ride over the VB to finish (It is a great part of the ride!) in Staten Island. Then you ride up to the ferry, wait, and then take the ferry back to lower Manhattan.

I can be ready by 10:30ish - I'm be coming from midtown. Maybe we should meet where the Intrepid was? There are benches, straight across from the 59th St Bridge and on the West Side.

I was talking to svloid - I'm not fast (figure 17 for a good portion of it, faster downhill and way slower uphill) so this will probably be a slower ride though he was thinking of making Sunday more of a training run. Or you guys can leave me

Good news - New handlebars are on - still trying to get them comfortable.
Bad news - rear rim is badly out of true, not sure if the new one is coming in (may be in by 6 on Friday night - nothing like last minute ). I'm going to try to true it up now though I'm not sure how much abuse it'll be able to take.

I'd also be up for a night ride to Coney Island on Sunday night after the 5 boro ride (see here).

Air: I have a spare rear wheel sitting at home. It's Shimano 9 speed. Cane Creek. You could use it for the day. Problem is getting it though.

Thanks! Actually - I kinda trued it last night. Apparently sleep and sobriety stopped me from doing this in the past.

It was good enough to ride into Brooklyn at 5 this morning, going to play with it a little more now that I have the hang of it (and if all else fails a few shots should help).

I don't know how many people are coming but how about meeting at my place at 10:30? It's much quicker getting to the brooklyn bridge from here than going all the way up to grand army plaza.

I'll meet you along the route - I'm still dialing this in, don't want to go to Brooklyn just to come back across. Why don't you give me a call when you're getting ready to leave?

How long would it take you to get to the 50's from Brooklyn on the west side path? About an hour?

Can I bring Bailey and the trike inside? I don't want to leave them unattended.
