Sea Gull Century - Who's Going?
I was just wondering if anyone else in BikeForums was doing the Sea Gull Century on October 6th. If so, do you think we will get good weather this year? Would you consider not showing up if the weather is bad?
Personally, my wife and I plan on going and we will ride it anyway even if the weather is bad. Last year it was windy and fairly rainy but it wasn't too bad because I had the proper attire.

I guess folks talking about it in this thread are going--at least some of us:

I'm going. This will be my first and thankfully, it looks like good weather. We'll camp Fri/Sat and I'll plan to start when I connect w/ a couple of co-workers (probably around 7:30-8:00). Don't know my number off hand.

Yeah, I heard about it after the Civil War Century and sat on it for a bit, registered last Friday. I'm trying to decide if the flat ride (compared to CWC) is better (no climbing up), worse (no cruising down), or neither. Guess I'll know tomorrow.

Whoohoo! I'm packed and ready to go. Just need to finish a few things here at work, run a couple of errands, and then I'm headed east for a weekend on the eastern shore!

My one interesting anecdote from the Sea Gull Century is that I missed the turn on to Lewis Road at around mile 67. This was the first turn after the Assateague Island rest stop. A bunch of other people missed the turn too - there were about ten cyclists following me and after I turned around I had to yell out to several more groups that they had missed the turn. So, my total mileage for the century was over 107. To all of you who actually made the turn - was it actually marked over on the right side of the road before the turn? I'm wondering how so many of us missed it.

A great ride and a great weekend for camping (with the exception of the burn ban that kept us from having a fire). Met some nice people, rode well (total time was about 6 hrs, with ride time just over 5). I hooked up with some fast pacelines which really helped and kept my avg. up around 20 for the rest. I was worried since I hadn't trained but probably did just as well and suffered the same problems (cramps, sore neck/shoulders) as I would have any way. It was so much fun that I'm getting ready to sign up for next year. Also, stopped to remove a kitten from the middle of the road that no one else seemed interested in helping. Gave him to one of the medical volunteers--hopefully he's doing ok.
