Climbing Bear Mountain in the winter?

I think you could find a more definitive answer if you did a search...
I tried to ride up to the top of Bear Mtn a year or two ago at this time and perkins was indeed closed. I thought about just going around the gate, but the road was covered in pebbles and rocks from the weather so I just turned around. 7 lakes drive was open though.

You can walk around the gate. As stated you may have snow to deal with.
As a general rule the top of Bear Mt may be 5 degrees colder than NYC, so always worry about snow and black ice and
fenders make sense.
