VT route advice
I have my campground reservations made in Southern Vermont. I have the DeLorme Atlas and I am also using Google Maps, cycle mode, for a route. Routes seem generally OK, but zooming and dragging to make changes takes forever! And then I am not even sure if I am changing from a road with wide shoulders to something less that ideal. I am hoping a local can help me - perhaps P-mail is best.
Rough Route:
Day 1-Townshend to Emerald Lake State Park.
Day 2 - to Gifford Woods StPrk.
Day 3 -To Mt Ascutney StPrk, via Billings Farm area and perhaps Quechee StPrk visit
Day 4 - to Townshend
Thanks
John

Don't obsess about your route, just do it. I don't live in VT but have cycled there extensively. It's a great place to ride. Some of the roads aren't in very good condition, but the scenery is nice, the traffic is generally sparse and the drivers courteous. The roads in VT, like other roads in the northeast that are subject to ice and snow are in a constant state of reconstruction. On a trip of any length you'll encounter newly resurfaced roads to ones that used to have a shoulder. You might want to look at John Freiden's book 25 Bike Tours in VT. His routes are like a highlight reel of VT. They're loops, but if can work in some of the roads he suggests you won't be disappointed. Some of the inns I have stayed at also have some routes and que sheets. The October Country Inn near Woodstock is one (www.vermontbikerides.net) and the Ranney Crawford house near Putney (www.ranney-crawford.com) is another. I don't have enough posts to send private messages, but if you can email me I'll help you out any way I can.
