Learned my lesson yesterday.......
Got home from job#2, walked the pooch, got on the road bike. Beautiful afternoon, roads messy but OK. Only 26 piddling miles but better than nothing.

Answered my own question. It is clear.

First tandem outing of the year today (yay!), in shorts. An anomaly, I know, but, Winter, your days are numbered.

I hate you guys. I'm in Arizona and it's raining and 50*. But Wednesday I'm going on a 50 mile ride and it's gonna be in the high 70s.

So i'm in Scottsdale, Az. with the family and rented 2 Emonda SL6 for my son and I and planned a 50 mile ride around McDowel mountain. 35 miles in I bonked. Stomach cramps, dizzy and finally puked. Even with drinking 3 24oz bottles of water and having a banana and gels, I was done. My son felt OK so I stayed at a supermarket and he did the last 15 and got the car for me.

After 5 years of riding, it was my first bonk.

I'll post pictures later.

35 miles, 2450', 15.4 mph and 1450c

Maybe just a stomach bug rather than a true "bonk". My bonks involve muscle cramps rather than nausea. After 35 years working in hospitals I'm pretty much immune to puking.

34 miles today, fourth consecutive ride in shorts and short sleeves! At this rate I'll have my farmers tan by Easter. Tandem has been used a few times too, first rides for Mrs. since December.

Puking bonk or not, it looks nice from the pictures, and good to see an Islander get off the Island.

We were looking down at the Sound from the mansion on top of the hill, so not close enough to tell. It sure was beautiful though.

It was windy, but warm enough for shorts.

20 miles and glad to be back on Long Island.

Shorts today? Even crazy Joe might have balked at that! And I definitely would balk at being glad to return here from out West. Welcome back anyway.

I was shooting at my first 100 mile week of 2017 and......99! But, the Mrs and I walked about 10, so, if I add that.....

Nah, soon enough neither one of us will need to cheat.

I reset the odometer on my CX bike on Thanksgiving so it was easy to see how many miles I put on it over the winter. I'm just a few short of 700 miles.

The right bike and right clothing, makes it easy to ride in the winter.

This is true. A few of us did about 14 miles in Edgewood this morning. Not cold at all. The trails were nicely frozen, but still not my favorite place. Eager to get back on the road and tandems, but not quite yet.

Another venue TBD tomorrow.

Sweet 16

16 miles, 16 degrees at the start. Perfect day to ride the trails. Frozen good & solid, just hinting at softening up in the usual spots at the end. LOTS of sticks to beware of, and low hanging stuff, so get out there but keep your eyes open.

Trains are running late in Edgewood today.

Another teaser before another cold wet slap by Old Man Winter. My road bike is like the Groundhog; comes out of his burrow for a bit, sees his shadow, and goes back to ground.

I figured you would seize the day too. I rode up to Cold Spring Harbor, through the lab & out the back way.

Another great day... just more wind that yesterday.

WARNING

There is a rather large lump of concrete just south of Seville concrete on Round Swamp Road on the south bound side. The road is covered with white concrete dust so I didn't see it until it was 5 feet in front of me... i was doing 24mph. Luckily I held on a didn't go down.

I went back and marked it with neon green spray paint so it should be visible for you to avoid it. I also call Seville and spoke to the dispatcher who said they'll take care of it.

VERY short trail ride. I was quickly reminded that there are few things more slippery than smooth wet tree roots. They should all run for local office. No way am I going to get hurt at the cusp of spring. Nope.

It's supposed to cool off tonight. I'm remounting the studded tires and hoping for a solid freeze.

The perfect storm. Enough to keep Mrs. Kaos home from work but not a big deal to shovel, at least not here.

Good day to patch tubes too. Ran out of patches.
