Rode down to Jones Beach to hand with friends going to Jimmy Buffet. Major head wind @ 17mph (I bet it was more). Going back was fast.

The parking lots were full of crazy people.

Newsday had this today, announced road closures thru this Sunday.

Surprised you use 107. We usually go slightly west to Seamans Neck Rd and head north to Union before heading up Stewart. I think somewhat less traffic.

99% of the time... yes. But early in the morning 107 to Stewart is clear.

Decided I wanted a group ride so I rode to Locust Valley with MBC.

I grew accustomed while away to the gloriously crisp air. There's nothing wrong with down jackets and wool hats in August. And now, back to the humidity. Ick.

We went as a small group to Crab Meadow in Northport, 44 miles, not particularly strenuous, and my top tube was covered in salt. I want to hike back up into the Ice Age and stay up there until autumn.

Went on the Massapequa Bike Path at Sunrise at around 8:30 this morning for a ride to Syosset and back. I was prepared to take Broadway in Bethpage to Plainview Rd and then get back on the path at Haypath Rd. The State Troopers at the Bethpage Traffic Circle were in the Process of opening up the Gate when I got there so I went thru the Park. On the return trip the gate was locked though that was stopping anyone from going N/B. It was a beautiful day for a ride.

Perfect summer day, low humidity, just perfect. Went with the faster group from Borella Field, and as usual saw new roads and places. The stop was St. Rocco's Bakery in Glen Cove. If your idea of a mid-ride snack is heavy-caliber Italian pastry, it's heaven. My compatriots settled in for what looked like was going to be a serious assault on the inventory, so I took my leave and motored home solo as I had errands to take care of. 43 miles, all of them good.

Reminds me of my days riding with the LIBC out of Westbury. They'd stop for lunch and I mean sit-down lunch at a pizza place in Bayville, then moan and groan up the hills. They later migrated to a since closed Mexican place in Syosett. You gotta be kidding me, Mexican ?, then ride the 7 hills ?.

Is why I found the MPBC

Got in a 29 miler on Brooklyn to L.I. Commute today. Did some exploring of different roads as well as this absurd bike path in either eastern Queens, or western Nassau, along the road to the Atlantic Beach bridge. Ruts, potholes, frost heaves, etc... And convoluted as all heck. Back to the highway tomorrow.

Agree, the weathers getting nice, looking forward to fall road riding.

We probably rode together on some of those rides, 930am from Wheatley HS. We used to stop at The Tides in Bayville also.

IT THOUGHT IT WAS GOING TO BE NICE TODAY ?.

100% humidity or near enough. Soaked at the get go, but the beach was nice, fogged in and nobody on the boardwalk except runners and other cyclists.

Whats that Don Henley song ?, sure felt that way this morning.

Commute to work, 27 and change miles and SLOW at 12 something, due to the 10mph SW headwind down the beach.

Hey OldnSlow, sorry we didn't get to talk in the lot this am. We were trying to figure out how many hundreds of bucks I owe that guy in blue jersey; we went on a trip recently where I found out my cc was compromised, and he covered for me. I don't entirely trust him not to minimize what I owe!

I thought you were coming with us up to Bayville. Most of those guys are "training" for the GranFondo NJ so it was a hilly ride, quite the workout, but we managed to hang in there.

No problem Joe.

I was doing a solo. When I saw you I already did Tobay and wanted to head to Huntington and onward. Did 50 miles @ 15.4 and the NE headwind was a B!TCH.

Possibly, this was Phil's AA ride. I only did a few then started going with a good different group of LIBC guys who I can only remember their first names, Wes, Little Rich, Big Dick (the skier), Dominic of course.

In 3 years or so I migrated to MPBC as they left earlier, where I met you. Good years with MPBC

And as ride report, dragged my butt out of bed for day 6 this week of cycling. It was too nice out this AM at 65, but tough NE wind at 15-20, so bagged it at 17, but got 160 in for the week. Trying for a 200 mile week before the years out, will be the first time in decades.

Yes, we slept in, in anticipation of a TROPICAL STORM, egads, and woke up to the most beautiful morning in some time. So we left fairly late from home and did a leisurely 41 to Oyster Bay. It was great.

Passing through B'page St. Pk. we were stopped by a flagman at the point well within the park where the path crosses the road, a stone's throw south of the picnic area parking lots. The lots are being used as a staging area for many utility trucks, in anticipation of this terrible storm. We were informed that because of the trucks in the lot, the "entire park is closed", and that we needed to find an exit. I pointed up the path and told him "there's an exit up that way", and we proceeded all the way to the north exit on Hay Path, which was not blocked. I had wanted to try out my war-movie German on the guy and pretend my Eeeeglisch is limited, but my wife forbade it.

On the way home we passed by the park on Round Swamp and noted that "the entire park is closed" did not include golfers.

I rode to Brickwell Farmingdale to replace my dead Bontrager taillight. I passed through the park and met the same flagman. The MUP was open so I took it. The entire road was lined with trucks and the parking was packed. Must of been 500 trucks. I saw some from Michigan and Quebec.

Anyway, I did a easy 20 miles and the weather today was nicer than yesterday.

I kind of figured the north end of the Old Croton would be history by now, as it took a big hit in one of the storms several years ago and looked horrible the last time I was up there. Glad to see it's still rideable!

Edit: Wait? Wha? Where did I just read that Steve B rode the Old Croton today?

This dopey Hermine storm has sure screwed up a lot of plans for the weekend. I thought I'd be bailing out my basement with cat litter buckets all day today. Instead, my wife and I took a beautifully breezy ride on the Bethpage Bikeway. I still can't get a clear picture of what to expect on Monday, so the bikes are in the car, but I don't know if they are going anywhere.

Last time I rode the OCA it was from Sleepy Hollow to Dobbs Ferry and back, so cannot verify anything in the very north to the reservoir.

So you didn't just ride the OCA and post something about it here? I must be losing it. Now I can't find the post I saw anywhere!

Hmm. Don't know where that came from.

Anyway, it's Day 3 of the devastating storm, Hermine, and my bike is sitting in the garage while the sun shines. We thought our ride on the Bethpage Bikeway was a gift yesterday, but it looks like we (or I) could have had another good ride today.

What the heck happened????

Last night i was thinking, hard to believe I stall can, what it must cost per truck to come here. Figure 2 men, driving 1500 miles round trip, wear and tear on the truck, fuel, tolls, lodging, food... it's got to be $1500-$2000 per truck. then multiply by 500 trucks... and that's only for Bethpage. What about Suffolk and the Jersey shore.

I was wondering the same. There were LOTS of trucks idling at Bethpage Park this weekend.

Alas, had to work & couldn't claim 3 for 3 "Riders on the Storm" days. Got 80+ stormy (not) miles in, anyway.
