Nowhere I was on-call engineer this weekend, which meant if I got a call, I would have to be at a networked PC within 20 minutes. What's worse is, I didn't get a single call!

You missed the part about Mountain Charlie. Oh, wait, you missed that turn because the street sign was down, didn't you? I might add that 'nother's etc. was different than my "official and posted" etc. I do have to give him credit for going out and thoroughly thrashing himself on the A-Ride while I slept in and did my own pace at little later in the morning.

No riding for me this weekend. We held a huge 40th birthday party for a close friend, and CGallagh had to go into work briefly today, just briefly enough that we missed our window of opportunity.

Tomorrow's a different story...somebody's taking vacation time. I predict a ride (fingers crossed).

Well done, those who rode. I'm envious.

I was on call this weekend too (every third week ). I did sneak out today for 25 miles with a knapsack, my PowerBook, and a wireless access card. No calls.

After a time trial race each weekend for the last three weekends, we slept in, and rode two 40 mile rides.

I rode the Terrible Two in 13:59!! I am really elated to have finished at all, even more so to have done it in good time. Weather was perfect, scenery was incredible, support was great. Best organized ride ever.

Actually I did make the Mtn. Charlie turnoff...though, not until we saw a bunch of guys coming back down Old Santa Cruz asking, "was that Mountain Charlie?!?!". It had been a while since I was there and I'd forgotten what it looked like, and the sign was missing (or very well-hidden?)

Edit: and yes, I took a shortcut to end the ride, going down Hwy 9 (probably my favorite descent in the area...and close to home!) instead of plunging on to Page Mill with the rest of the crew.

I was in the same boat, for different reasons. I had custody of the kids this weekend plus first swim meet of the season plus father's day = no riding for Dad. We had fun, though.

I'll have to do a few D-peats tomorrow to make up for it.

Completing the TT at all is pretty impressive. That and DMD are probably the toughest doubles in the area...anywhere, for that matter. A sub-14 time is fantastic -- great job flaco!

SV Commuter

Did a route similar to the NorCal group ride 5/26, except I went up Page Mill from the Park and Ride lot, down Alpine to Pescadero Road, then the same Stage Road and back up Tunitas Creek. Dang, it was cold on Pescadero Road, I could see my breath! That and riding in mist much of the time was making me cold and my knees sore, I was glad to get back to Skyline and sunshine.

For some reason I turned the wrong way on Portola Road from Mountain Home and ended up at the market again, so I got a few extra unexpected miles .

Still deciding if I'm ready to do the full century at Giro di Peninsula. Wish they published the route beforehand, that would help me decide.

Apparently it's going up 84 from Woodside, rather than any of the less-travelled roads. The only climbs of any distance seem to be 84 to Sky Londa and Tunitas Creek.

Thanks for the comments! I am still kinda tired, and very thankful that the weather cooperated. After sagging out of DMD with cramps I didn't know how I would end up doing.

Nothing as noteworthy as a sub-14 hour sprint in the Terrible Two (nicely done, flaco!), but I was visiting friends in Marin and rode from Corte Madera to the SF side of the Golden Gate Bridge and back. Warmish in Corte Madera, windy as heck by the time I got to Sausalito, even windier on the Bridge. Pretty day, fun ride.

Did the Cat 5 race at the Specialized/Bikes Plus Crit on Saturday. Finished just out of the money but it has me stoked for Davis on July 4.

Did Mt. Hamilton for the first time ever via Quimby. The ride from my apt in Sunnyvale to East Ridge mall was not bad as it was still way early in the morning before the sun was out. Ok so Quimby destroyed me. I had to stop about 7 times up it, at least the scenery is great. I recently went to compact gearing, 50/34 12-27 9 speed and that lowest gear was not low enough that final straight up section. The rest of the climb went well until my Camel Bak ran dry a couple miles from the Observatory. Rested about 40 minutes at the top before heading home. A lot of riders up there training for the Death Ride. It was about 8 hours including rest and lunch at the bottom of the hill, 76 miles.
