Tuesday and Wednesday, it was 100+. Thursday and Friday, it was high 90's. Today - high 80's to low 90's. So, with a break in the heat we took a little spin out toward Livermore and back. When it was all said and done, we racked up ~80 miles and~3700 feet of climbing. It was a great day to be out, with some great folks. A little warm and a little windy, but a lot of fun nevertheless.

Don't mince words
Rode the shop ride to Winters, through the orchards, then broke off to cruise Putah Creek Rd. and Pleasant's Valley. 3 of us broke off from there to climb Cantelow, then Steiger, then the rollers on English Hills. Nice to ride where the humidity doesn't crush you when you walk out the door.

Curtis, Tricia, Dan and Ron on their Knoxville Recon ride. 89 miles, almost 7000 feet of climbing and it was hot too!
I can't believe how steep some it it was.
Curtis and Dan, maybe Ron, plan to attempt the Knoxville Double century. I'm not sure why.

A 33 miler on Saturday (Acalanes-Rheem-Pinehurst-Grizzly-Wildcat-Papa Bear-Happy Valley) and a 58 miler today from Lafayette to the top of Diablo and back.
That's twice my all August mileage in one weekend. It was a bit tough on Diablo this morning but what a great feeling to get some real time on the bike again.

Alta Alpina Sonora Pass Century
My son and I rode our 3rd ride of Alta Alpina's Hillacious Century series. I believe Sagebum has posted reports and pictures from other rides in the series. He was out of town for this one, so I thought I'd post a few from this ride - The Sonora Pass Century. 5 words sum up the ride - steep, fantastic, steep, beautiful, and steep. 101 mile and about 11,000 feet of climbing.

Every time I drive Sonora Pass I am in awe of the scenery... and steepness of the road.
Riding a bike century over it has to belong to insanity status.
Yet I am very impressed by your accomplishment. Big BRAVO!

30 miles in and around town. Highlight of the ride was an ice coffee in the shade at Peet's in Danville.

This past Sunday I was given the opportunity to ether miss work or ride like crazy and get there via bicycle... I couldn't use the car and I found out at the last possible minute... Anyway I slapped my gear in the pannier, suited up and checked my route.
Now I started really liking a new feature on Google Maps, it features a button to adjust your route to known bicycle lanes and such. So you do everything you usually do to get the route you need but than click the bicycle icon and poof
Now I know this is new and bound to have bugs in the system... but Sunday was not the day I needed to iron out bugs 
On a few turns I mixed up directions (easy to do when turning every block or so) as well as the non-existent bike lanes on a route clearly posted as a bike route!!! Ya that was fun...
So aside from getting lost a few times and sweating out close calls on very narrow lanes, I made it to work, albeit a couple hours late... remember I was getting in the car at the last possible minute... Work is also in the next town away, 20 miles as the crow flies, 26 by car, and who knows how many miles I ended up riding trying to hurry to work...
I took this pic, and more, while on one of the various farm stretches on my way, really nice views that blur by while in a car. Even though I was not expecting this ride I did enjoy it and the view, plus I didn't get sunburned like I was sure I would
After work, 11pm, I chose to ride home as I was still feeling pretty good and was still on a high from the days ride. I find I feel better and have a great outlook when I ride, so I think I'll keep it up Anyway I found out just how dark a moonless night on a HWY threw the farms really gets... I ride in the city at night all the time and don't think about the dark much at all... Not so out in the farm lands LOL My light barely shows the lane strip on my left, I could see NOTHING else. When a road crossed I was blind, my white stripe was gone and I could see nothing till I reach the other side, hoping I was close to the right spot and not heading for the irrigation ditch, that was full of water for the farm lands around me... Ya that was a bit more exciting than I was interested in LOL. I'm also glad I was feeling up for the few gang areas I went threw, just picked up the cadence a bit and just plowed threw... No issues at all and I was glad for that as I really didn't want to deal with that at all. Once over the freeway and railroad tracks I was in familiar territory and was soon back home. It only took 2 hours to get home and I was spinning an easy cadence that left me still feeling good.
I ended up being on my bike going to and from work longer than I was actually at work lol...

Saturday, did the "What was I thinking?" backside of Patterson Pass thing with bigbossman, LanceOldstrong and a host of other good folks. (I'm the grinning fool in the Renault ELF jersey in BBM's pics.) At one point, we saw a thermometer that claimed it was 98 degrees, but it never felt that hot to me. Great ride, great folks, great pre-ride and during-ride lunch stops, generally a very fun day.
Sunday, a quick 16 mile round trip from the Filmore and Lombard in SF to Sausalito over the GG Bridge whilst my dearly beloved was in a dance class. Gawd Almighty, there were a lot of riders on and around the Bridge. I have never seen so many bikes on it. The real problem wasn't so much when folks were riding - the renters were slow, but somebody had told them to ride in a straight line, and the Lance wannabes all were on quaaludes or something and thus abnormally relaxed - but an large number of people chose some suboptimal places to stop. At least I know not to be in a hurry going across, so it wasn't that big a deal. To make up for it, the downhill into Sausalito was unusually great - I hit a break in both the cars and the bike renters, and was able to really cut loose until the edge of town.

I didn't get to ride as much as I had hoped the past Labor Day weekend. I did HoP-lite on Saturday.
Sunday, I got up put on my bibs, didn't feel motivated so I took them off and went to Church. I did
ride from San Bruno to the Millbrae Arts and Wine festival with my 5 y.o. son Luke. Round trip of
5 miles was his longest ride so far (no counting riding laps around the local park).
Monday morning I rode from San Bruno to San Francisco to spectate at the Giro di San Francisco. I called
my wife to have her bring Luke up to do the kids' race. Luke was really jazzed to give it a go.

After 4 months off the bike, I did 36 flat miles on Wednesday in prep for Mt Diablo on Sat. I made it to the 2nd ranger station in 55 minutes, which is good for me. The Saturday, the summit!

Not the weekend - but a nice 20 mile coffee run with Lanceoldstrong. From my house in San Ramon to the top of Bollinger (Las Trampas), and then back down and over to downtown Danville for coffee before returning.
A nice little "play hookey" break from the work grind. On vintage steel, to boot - what's not to like?
