What bigbossman said. We did the 65 miler, which ended up being a 70 miler, but the main pint was we did not do the 100 miler, which would have added Mt. Veeder to the mix. But it was a lovely day.

I rode the 100 mile at Crater Lake On Saturday and then dashed back to Napa for the Tour of Napa Valley (didn't realize they were on the same weekend until much later.) I was signed up for the 100 but didn't want to get up, arrived a little late and so I did the 65. Wow, what a difference. 250 or so on Saturday and 3000 on Sunday. I felt really good on the Napa ride, need to do longer rides before long rides more often! And Ink Grade did not kill me (last time I was there I foolishly tried Howell Mtn, Ink Grade is MUCH nicer.)

Was on call all weekend. But what kinda sucked was I only got one call all weekend, and that was all done by Saturday morning at 9 am. I guess I should be careful what I wish for. I was able to get in a short evening ride out to Mt. Eden, and got my personal best. Maybe it's because it was short, and I was extremely well rested?

Checked out some of the roads up past Auburn and into Colfax. Beautiful scenery, some good hills, lots of rollers. Nothing particularly difficult though.

Did the House of Pain (lite) ride again - a good BF turnout too (six in all). I'm starting to like this ride quite a bit - it's a good pace, social enough in between bouts of suffering and time efficient (50miles, 18-19mph pace with only a couple of brief stops).
This week was a bit odd, the ride was really crawling along at a slow pace out along Tassajara, couple of guys went down early on in the front part of the pack (a pinecone got the blame), and I found myself with 3 or 4 other guys pushing the pace up a bit; but as soon as we turned left on Highland the green light went on and the hammer goes down. Brutal winds yesterday on the way to and from Livermore - really needed to echelon down N Livermore Ave, but not everyone was playing ball. The pace was good on the middle section, riding 25+ along Kitty Hawk, then with no break it was on to Collier. Wind was as bad as expected, and what was left of the pack pretty much got splintered into singletons and groups of no more than 3 or 4 riders. Enjoyed some great pacelining with a couple of Taleo and a BBC guy on the way back home though. Got a good work out again, trying to hang with the leading group (or what was left of it). This and GPC tuesdays are doing good things for the average level of intensity in my regular riding.

One of our club members puts on the "melon ride" each year. Had over 55 riders turn out for today's slug fest. Great ride that started in Manteca, headed north then east and eventually back to the start. Had a couple of riders go down but everyone was in one piece at the end of the day. Approximately 52 miles with a average speed of 20.6 mph.

Only 40 miles and about 1300 feet of climbing today, in and around San Ramon, Dublin, Alamo, and a little bit of Walnut Creek. Just test riding the new sled.

Finally put my b... on the saddle this weekend. I had been off the bike since the Corlew Diablo climb.
Thursday was a short hill repeat in the neighborhood (7 miles and 1000'), Saturday was a more ambitious 33 miles with 3,700' of climbing. Started with Acalanes, then to Rheem, Pinehurst where I joined a Chevron group for the climb, Grizzly Peak, down Wildcat, and up again on Papa Bear, Happy Valley, and Los Arabis.
I think the Chevron group was riding in an organized MS ride.

Long weekend for me. Climbed: Soda Springs, Montevina, Black Rd., Gist Rd., Eric's Driveway, (then on Sunday) OLH, Stage, Haskins, and W. Alpine.
Saw some stars and thought I might die on W. Alpine after going WAY too hard at the bottom.

Spent the weekend camping on the Yuba River up by Grass Valley. I've gone up here for 3 out of the last 4 summers but it was about 20 degrees colder than usual. It was cloudy all day Saturday and sprinkled that night. The sun finally came out on Sunday (how appropriate) and I got a 5 minute swim in the river.
On the way home we stopped in downtown Auburn to try and find a lunch but just about everywhere was closed. So I stopped in Victory Velo to ask for a recommendation since I new I could trust fellow cyclists to tell me where to get good food Ended up at Katrina's for a superb quiche and enormous berry cobbler.
I managed to get all of 59.1 weekend miles in August (but 434 weekday miles so far!)

Camping with the wife's family a Calaveras Big Trees. The high point was listening to a half-hour scream fight starting at 7:15 between the five-year-old niece and her mother. Boy, were we popular in teh campground.
I did sneak in a ride on Highway 4 from Big Trees to Lake Alpine (just past the road to Bear Valley ski resort). 26 miles. almost entirely uphill. 3400 feet worth.
"New sled"? Do tell . . . .

Tuesday and Wednesday, it was 100+. Thursday and Friday, it was high 90's. Today - high 80's to low 90's. So, with a break in the heat we took a little spin out toward Livermore and back. When it was all said and done, we racked up ~80 miles and~3700 feet of climbing. It was a great day to be out, with some great folks. A little warm and a little windy, but a lot of fun nevertheless.

I rode from San Jose up to Mountain View to have lunch with a buddy, and then back down to San Jose. It was nice actually getting on the bike again. I haven't gotten to do much riding lately!
