Finally took the Pinarello out for it's shakedown voyage. Forty miles from my house to Roberts Market and back. The way out was fantastic because of the HUGE tailwind. The way back sucked.

No ride for me today, playing nursemaid to Grover. Maybe tomorrow.
Did get in some riding in the Philly area last week though. Mostly on the Schuylkill river trail, but also a bit in town. The trail was a bit flat and straight for my tastes, so it was nice to discover a few little rollers on the road.

Flat terrain for me this weekend. I'm in LA, so lots of river trail riding. Too bad weather conditions are a bit murky.

85 miles and 9000' feet? Rode up Quimby then Mt. Hamilton then down the back side to the bridge and back up. This time instead of driving to the start I rode from my apt in Sunnyvale. Worst winds ever . The entire journey back Capitol, Montague, San Tomas and Central expressways really stunk. I used every swear word multiple times and then some as I struggled in the middle ring against that wind. I brought the big heavy camera too so pictures later after I consume several thousand calories.

The winds are crazy today! Even walking against them was unpleasant.

I think I probably didn't notice it as much because I am carrying so much weight in my belly ... but for those who weigh a feather, I can see where it can pose a problem.

Nice bike. You have to promise to put some extra weight on there to get it over the UCI limits.

Those are clinchers It's also not a particularly light bike, 17.5lbs according to my hanging luggage scale. It is quite stiff which I like and steers quickly. I'm also quite impressed with the Flite Gel Flow with the cutout, very comfy.

Thanks. I felt like such a poseur on the side of the road tweaking saddle and bar angle adjustments.

Sunday I did a loop of Marin (including Mt. Tam) with my brother. I woke up at 6am and checked the weather. All of Marin county was showing 30-32 degrees with forecast highs for the day at about 50.
We started just south of the golden gate bridge at about 7:45am and rode directly to the top of Mt. Tam (Hwy 1, Panoramic Hwy, Pan Toll). This early in the morning the winds were still relatively calm and climbing helped us to stay warm.
Climbing on Pan Toll Road
When reaching the top of Mt. Tam around 10am I noticed this scene:
Why is the picnic table all white on top? Closer inspection revealed the answer:
Snow!
Severe clear looking west from the top of Mt. Tam
We descended down Panoramic Highway into Stinson beach and my face and lips got cold enough that it was hard to speak intelligibly. I felt about the same as after a dentist appointment where they numb you up with novacaine. Anyway we weren't quite ready to stop and so we continued on to Bolinas to eat some lunch there.
Highway 1 from Stinson Beach to the turnoff for Bolinas
I'm not sure if the 25 refers to the speed limit or the speed of the headwind! Luckily this stretch of road is only a few miles long.
Here we are after eating in Bolinas. Pardon the ugly panoramic stitching, I wasn't thinking "panorama" when I took the two photos and so there is some nasty parallax errors.
Climbing up the west side of Fairfax-Bolinas road
Stopped again in Fairfax for another snack. This bike rack had one bike in it when we arrived and then got really popular all of a sudden

And finally climbing up out of Fort Baker almost finished with the ride. The winds on the bridge were very very strong and it was exciting trying to maintain a straight course with the cross wind
All in all a great ride. I was extremely thankful for the wind proof vest I bought on Friday. Without it I seriously don't think I could have completed this ride without getting at least mild hypothermia! Total stats: 70 miles, 6200 feet of climbing.
