Sounds like many had interesting and/or challenging rides this weekend.
I went for a short ride while visiting my parents on Saturday. Only did 6 miles with some crazy steep climbs (at least according to me, Map My Ride said some of them were 6-7%), but none longer than about a quarter mile before descending... then back up again. Lots of practice shifting gears which is great because I don't get any of that here. Oh, and for some stupid reason when the town my parents live in put a bunch of "speed tables" along most of the roads, they extended them into the bike lanes. Of course, most of these seem to be at the bottom of hills. Really safe! Spent too much time trying to avoid flying through the air at the bottom of each hill. Sucks having to slow down to take a speed bump right before starting a climb. Anyhow, got a flat and that was the end of that ride. Had to get back to my parents' and clean up for company.
Today was a 24 mile ride in my area. Flat, flat, and more flat. Well, not literally, some long gentle hills, but nothing that you all wouldn't fly up in no time. Wind was worse than I expected. I kept thinking how much more I hate wind than hills. At least hills are somewhat predictable. With wind you get gusts and I'm terrified one will just blow me right over. Didn't see many other cyclists out, I think 3 today. I got kind of a late start though so it might have been the heat (although it wasn't really hot when I left). Went through both water bottles too, so glad I told them I wanted two cages when I got my bike.
Ugh... only one more weekend of "training" for Levi's GranFondo. I'm going to die.

Hopefully it's not illegal to talk on a cellphone in Carmel You and everyone else got more miles than me this weekend - the big bagel. Still the stuff I got involved doing with my kids more than makes up for it.

Rode Redwood Gulch -> 9 with Ramon friday after work then was off the bike all weekend. Gotta get some early morning miles this coming week as it's gonna be brutally hot in the afternoons.
Ti bike handled great up the gnarly 15% sections of RWG. The only problem I was having was the front end lifting up as I was pushing hard while seated. Too light I guess Garmin said the descent down 9 hit 46.1 mph but I have to question that because that's a good 10mph faster than I usually take it there.

It's Carmel so you never know! I have a friend in the area and she's always telling me about these odd laws they have. I thought maybe Carmel had a new one about people talking on cell phones while standing on the street corner or something.

I got up early Sunday and did 40 flat miles on the fixed gear bike before breakfast. Found a 2 mile strip of pristine pavement out by the airport. Must have been put in for a now-stalled development. I think I found my TT practice loop!

Rode from Olympia Washington to Astoria Oregon
I had a great ride from Olympia Washington to Astoria Oregon with a stop for sleep in South Bend, Washington (Oyster capital). First day was 86 miles, and next day was a more reasonable 55 miles. Great weather. I did have some major cramps in my right hamstring and quadricep. Any ideas on how to deal with cramps in those big muscles?

Only got in short bike rides this weekend, due to only having 3 days with the hubby in between his 5-week business trip and my 1-week trip.
Also branched out a little in my unicycle practicing, I've been working on the flat patio (unassisted), tried out the sloped driveway (assisted)...avoided the steepest parts though!

Spent the weekend in SoCal. Couldn't find a ride that I really liked, so I rode with Montrose.

Are their prices any cheaper than buying online from the PI site? I need new shorts and may be off that way in a couple of weeks but don't want to bother if they don't have any good deals.

Saturday: 35 mi., 2 hr., headwind for the 15 mi. home. Stayed in the flats/orchards and was surprised to see so many almond trees uprooted and cleared. I wondered as I blazed past if they'd replant the same orchards or do something different?

Oh, I've always admitted they are headphones. My point is that the law does not mentioned headphones at all. It only prohibits "headsets that cover the ear", and "earPLUGS" that go into the ear. I don't think ipod earbud style earphones are or do either of those things. I think that law was intended to prohibit sound-blocking safety equipment type earplugs and earmuffs, not audio equipment.

Ramon came over and we did a tough little ride, 45 miles, 4626 ft.
Check out the graph: Note we started just before 3 pm, when the temp peaked out at 95 degrees.

Diablo! My wife made it on her first time. She even fought her way up the wall with me cheering her on. Way to go!

I did a mellow ride out to the end of Canada Road and back from Sunnyvale. 52 miles and started nearly at the hottest part of the day. I look at it as heat training to start off my taper for The 508 next weekend.

Rode up Moody, then Page Mill. By the time I got to the top of Page Mill, it was high noon. It was hot ... very hot. I was originally going to go to Woodside, then climb Kings Mountain, but the heat and Page Mill really did me in. Went home from there.

60 miles in Napa(and 100 degree heat) with BigBossman & LanceOldstrong. We finished with Oakville Grade's steep side at mile 45. That hill is no joke! Beautiful scenery, good food & funny riding partners worked out to a nice but hot ride.

Saturday, 10 mile loop early. Wanted to do my 25 mile loop, but I didn't sleep well and had no energy. I was also in instant pain when I sat on the saddle.
I looked at saddles yesterday when getting my bike tuned up, but the guy suggested that I angle it slightly downward before buying a new saddle. Good idea, but I didn't have him do it. Figured I could do that myself.
So I did my 25 mile River Road loop this morning, but forgot to adjust the saddle. After a half mile I realized that there was no way I was going to get through 25 miles in such discomfort. However, I left my tools sitting at home next to my mountain bike. Quick return home, I adjusted the saddle, and headed out again. Discomfort instantly gone!
Don't know if it was the saddle angle, my new Ionos (wore it for the first time today), or if I was in some way inspired by Cadel's win today, but I felt blissful on the bike and could have rode forever like a cycling Energizer bunny. Only by the time I was almost home, it was in the 90's and my water was hot (could have brewed tea).
Aside from the notable absence of sitbone discomfort, I also had no back pain today. This was the first time ever riding my road bike over 8 miles that I didn't have lower back pain.
Very good day. In fact, considering going out for a short ride tonight if the temp drops any.
Really looking forward to the heat wave ending so I can ride when I get home from work (even if it's only for a short time) and totally psyched for next weekend!
Edited: I totally forgot my rant!
As I was just about a half mile from home, I decided to hop on the bike trail instead of taking the bike lane down the busy road, which is what I normally do. I came up behind a guy on a mountain bike. He was up out of his saddle, pedal pedal pedal, then would swerve from one side of the bike trail to the other and back. Lather, rinse, repeat.
I was probably 10 feet behind him when I yelled, "On your left!" No reaction whatsoever. I pulled up right behind him and in my best scolding teacher voice yelled again, "On your left!" No reaction yet again.
He finally slightly turned his head and guess what? The dude had earbuds in! He still didn't see me. Wish he could have seen the withering stare I was giving him. I was going to say something at the stop light, but he turned and didn't stop. My only other option was chucking a water bottle at him. Kidding... I wanted to, but I didn't. Don't want to lose one of my bottles.
Ending rant now.

On Saturday, we did a 28 mile MTB out and back from Wente/Livermore up to Del Valle. Good times on fire road and single track. We got a late start at 8:30. By the time we got back, we were a bit fried. Nothing that a jump in pool couldn't cure.
It's been a while since I took the MTB out. Fall has to be the best time of year to ride it too, so I think I'm getting the bug again.
