Woo Hoo! I know you all have just been sitting on pins and needles since my original posts several months ago to know what I finally bought: a 2007 Trek Pilot 5.0 size 57cm. It is my first women's bike which is cool because I am a woman. Bless Trek for supporting us long of leg and short of torso and arm. It was a must buy because the 57cm WSD are going by way of the dodo bird as this year they are only making them in the Pilot 2.1. I had already bought a Jamis Coda Comp which I love but it feels like an errand, run around with the kids sort of bike that I want to hang all sorts of pack rat crap on, and I missed (and sorely need) the fun and exercise of a dedicated road bike. And it was on sale. I am so happy!!!

Well Mr. Radius, I am out riding around the loops off Foothill Expwy now in the Los Altos to Portola Valley area and I will venture back to the loop through PV where I used to live shortly. But, I don't see myself going up King's Mountain. I rode it once a long time ago and got clipped by an RV. I drive it a lot because I have a kid in a class at Huddart Park and I lived on the PV loop and I see how many near misses there are and I don't have the stomach for it. I am not a pack rider but if you see a beautiful blue Trek Pilot 5.0 WSD with a tall one in a purple helmet on board, that's me!

hi, all
I'm Bill - 50 y.o. weekend pedaler in Los Gatos (since Mar.08). Ride a Trek 3700, so far, 98% road. Would love to connect with folks in the LG/Saratoga/Campbell area for rides - would hit some trails with patient guide(s). btw, I encountered some glass out past Saratoga that took out my back tire last weekend. Any recommendations for repair shops nearby?
Hope to see you out there!
be well

Welcome fungsta. You have to let us know what that handle is all about. I'm not from your area so I cannot recommend a shop near you. I'm sure someone else will chime in though.

Welcome Fungsta,
I haven't seen too many mountain bikers posting regularly here in the Nor Cal forum. That's not to say there isn't MTB riders. We keep threatening to organize an MTB ride sometime but nothing solid so far.
My co-worker rides with Mere Mortals (https://www.mere-mortals.org/) and really enjoys it (he's 50+ as well).
Henry

thanks for the welcomes/link
re: handle, it's actually funQsta - a play on gangsta (something i've no affinity or respect for) and my own flavor of "funk" -something I'm way into (creating as well as listening), along with jazz, latin/brazilian, fusion and r&b/soul
i would like to connect with others in the West Valley area for road rides and i guess i've delayed as long as possible on buying a rack to schlep the Trek to other locations for rides. I have good friends off of Skyline, but have only ridden up there once (last year) - OLH is a great hill; look forward to hitting that again
take care

There's plenty of musicians that ride in this group, msincredible (violin), taxi777 (guitar +), bostic (drums), and bottlerocket (?woodwind?).

Funqsta,
A bike shop close to you is Summit Bicycles on East Main in Los Gatos. They are also a Trek dealer so in addition to tires and tubes, they should be able to get whatever you need for your bike.
I like your taste in music!

funqsta, there's a bike shop right between Big Basin Way and that parallel street that ends up being Bohlman, facing Hwy 9 (IOW, it's sort of facing the firestation). They would seem to be capable of doing basic tire/tube repairs, though I've never been inside.
See you out on the road!
