Intro--Another guy from Puget Sound
I just posted this on the "intro's" thread but thought I'd say "hi" here too:
"I'm a life long rugby/ ice hockey knucklehead from Seattle waiting to get old enough to have my left knee replaced. That means no more running and as of recently, no more ice hockey. I surf a lot, but as a fitness maniac I need that regular (read "several times a week") raising of the heartrate. Being a Seattle surfer doesn't get met there but once a week. So as I was in the garage a few months ago looking at my two steeds, a single speed mountain bike conversion and an older Klein road frame I built up with stuff off of eBay for about $400, I decided I should just start using them more frequently. I also figured getting into an internet forum of like-mindeds might help keep me on the bike (and off the couch) as we push into our PNW winter!"
I live just south of Seattle and work in Olympia. I'm hoping that hanging around here lurking the regional forum will keep me on the bike, outside, this winter. Best.

Welcome tres
Ex Hockey player also, biking should be easy on the knee, just make sure to keep it warm on these cold days, I always thought being a cyclist would have prepared me for the speed and anarobic rush of hockey but oh no that sport really kicks your ass. Great fun though and i miss it, just not the money or travel. Good luck riding ..........Jim

hi guys
Thanks for responding.
East Hill--Yes to TTP; No to being seen on the trails. I've been riding a bit in Des Moines Creek park on the SS, and the Chehalis-Western Trail (Olympia) on the roadie, but I tend to be pretty stealthy. I'm not against getting out and meeting folks though...just need to get into shape before I start riding with a group!
Wildwood--Thanks for the feedback. I'm actually looking for narrow fenders for my roadie. Got any suggestions?
Rocky--Hockey is about as anaerobic as it gets, eh? I was having fun in the GSHL for the past few years when I was fit, but couldn't keep up my off-ice training. I was one of the few on my club that had been playing since childhood and while all the guys were getting stoked about improving, I kept remembering my best days as a college club player. Aging is a b*tch!
Best,
David

I too have a knee problem and had to stop playing soccer because of it... had an ACL reconstruction about 14 years ago and now deal with the arthritic action ... so no running for this kid.... so cycling is it for me as well... I am new to all of this also and am looking forward to getting back into shape... I am over here in Poulsbo
