It's just in my abs. It didn't really bother me but I noticed that for the last 2 miles or so my back really hurt.

Cyclo-cross actually looks like something I would have enjoyed back when I had knees.

I think i might try that.... it looks like fun. Though im doing it wearing normal shoes no way i would be clipped in doing that sh*t. But my 1400 would be fun!
about time someone understands me. It's better with clips. Unless of course like in my last CX race your cleats/pedals become packed with ice and you can't clip in or stay on the pedals for that matter. Next time that happens I'm taking off my shoes. Now that would be bad ass.

My wife was looking over my shoulder for the CX video. I said it looked like it would be fun if I still had knees and that I sometimes miss running.

She forbade me to even think about doing anything that involves running.

I think you would want a front brake.. it's crucial. You go faster if you brake when you're supposed to on a technical course, not like road racing. I raced on a vintage bike w/ wider tires last year. Worked fine.

The part with the red tape and the standing guy is where I slid under the red tape, much like he did. Off camber turn.

A storm came through while we were trying to get back in and I got caught out in ~58knots. The boat and I became airborne, I ejected and swam in. The mast broke when the boat landed. It briefly achieved an altitude of around 35 feet (inverted without the mast touching the water).

That's more climbing than most Florida cyclist do in 20 miles.

How did you get the boat back to shore?

And is it common to have insurance?

we went and got it after the storm ended. It stopped before going on the rocks because the mast stub served as an anchor. It was insured. Still is.

Are carbon masts standard fare? Or are they upgrades over some other material?

Pretty much standard on modern acats. Acats are a development class - means the boats comply with a rule, but can differ and allows for experimentation. The rule limits length (18 feet), width (~7.5 feet) weight (165#) and sail area.

This has lead to all carbon boats that have tall wing like sails that weigh in at or below the minimum. They're addictive.

I couldn't understand what those guys said. And frankly the laying-outside-the-boat-over-the-water thing gives snow/mud bike racing a run for its money.
