Pilio is north of here, on the mainland. I have spent considerable time there as well. In my misbegotten youth. The beauty in this country is other worldly. One of those places you sort of have to experience in person to appreciate. Like Big Sur.

so there was a crash on the group ride this morning. 4 guys down 2 to hospital. One confirmed CB break on assumed (I don't know the other guy that well) I went and picked up their bikes at one of the first responders buisness. So know I have a brand new tarmac and a madone with wireless SRM in my garage along with my fuji and BMC... It is like a velo wealth in there...

I had the temporary thought of doing a power test with the SRM bike...I felt terrible for even thinking it

First guy had a flat, he said he was shouting it out but the guy behind didn't hear (was waiting for a hand to go up) somehow a front wheel was chopped and the first guy went down leading to the chain reaction. Apparently the last guy (the guy I know pretty well but just started riding this year) tried to "jump" the guy in front of him. As reported by the guy on the ground my buddy succeeded in landing right on top of him and was the last of 4 to go down. It was kinda a sucky road for it too 1 ft worth of shoulder so initially we stopped traffic in both directions and the initial fear was the incoming traffic might hit the guy that sprawled into the incoming lane.

The older guy that went down (58 yo) I think hit his head pretty bad he didn't move for some time and stayed in the road so we tried to do our best at letting the traffic go with one lane. I was helping the guy I knew. Called his wife for him and told him I would get the bike. He got back to me said he is home now. collar bone break but no hardware needed. He hit his head too but wasn't out of it at all. The helmet was cracked pretty good though on both of the guys that were really messed up.

The other 2 just had rash, one was limping a little. It was toward the back of the pack, Not crazy fast but not slow either, Maybe 24-25ish?

You're right, my bad, I was thinking Volos, Pili is actually where I rode today, it's about 35 miles from here across the mtn ridge that splits the island on the other side. Didn't make the connection, that 'o' at the end of Pili (that's what the locals call it) threw me.

I could blame it on jet lag, but it's actually Pcad Brain Lag.

Many of the rural, lightly travelled roads here have been redone. Recently. At a cost of millions and millions of Euros. And I hear much of that is E.U. aid that Greece uses for infrastructure. This all in a country that the rest of Europe is bailing out lest it bring down the whole European Union. So if you live in the Netherlands, Germany or France, that's your tax dollars at work.

Will do. I ended up riding up a hill for 5 miles (not non stop, but mostly uphill) and then rode down said mostly hill home. That was fun.

Feeling better then? Didn't you say you got clearance to drive? You need to get out of the city and do some of the rides either in MD or VA.

Permit. Not license. And I actually live in Alexandria VA, not in the District. And feeling OK, but having a cold makes a normally easy ride a lot harder. I coughed a lot.

Good you're ok. This stuff happens way too much. I think the group I ride in has maybe 30 or so regulars and someone seems to have some sorta thing about once every couple of weeks. sux.

That sucks. It can be hard to control the bike with a blowout and hold your hand up. I know all too well the chain reaction effect. Hope everyone gets better.
