Hmm. Sock speculation.

We suspect that everyone is a coasting sock.

I crashed today. I ate a krispy kreme, got self-conscious, and decided to do a leisurely 3 mile ride through the park since the weather is 100% perfect. I didn't even gear up--just khaki shorts, t-shirt, and sunglasses. No helmet or anything. Of course, in the first mile on the way to the park I cornered at a blistering ~7mph and hit gravel and spun out. Bloody knee and skinned shoulder were the result. Not a scratch on the bike, so that is good.
It's frustrating that the one time I go without a helmet for the most leisurely cruise I crash.

Glad the bike is ok

Bummer. Now you have more than one reason to feel self-conscious.Good thing you didn't scratch up your bike.

Learned a valuable lesson, though. I will never again bomb a hill that I'm not very familiar with. Gravel patches will be the death of me

Crappy road conditions were the reason I took my fat tire bike out yesterday. Lots of fine gravel still left on the road from the winter plowing.

An Inspiring Tale of Determination
Volleyball stunk this evening--not enough good players. Then everyone decided to leave early.
I wasn't anxious to leave, and, caught up in the spirit of March madness, I decided to shoot basketball for a bit.
As I picked up the ball, a curious thought popped into my head: "Wouldn't it be neat to make ten free throws in a row?"
So I started shooting from the foul line.
Unsurprisingly, I was rusty at first (I shoot very infrequently), but I expected to rapidly regain the old shooting touch.
As I continued, I started hitting more shots, but I couldn't get any rhythm in my delivery. The hits and misses were far too random to sustain streaks. After 100 or so shots, I had manage to hit eight in a row once, and five in a row a few times, but the ten-shot milestone didn't seem any closer than when I started. It doesn't take an MIT mathematician to figure out that if you're shooting ~60% it could take a long time to hit 10 shots in a row.
But brushed aside the negativism and kept shooting, scientifically analyzing my mechanics and hoping to get hot.
At last I started feeling it. I made not 10 shots in a row, but 16!
What's the lesson here? If you ever feel like you're up against an insurmountable physical challenge, keep trying. Think of Velo Vol nailing the free throws and it will propel you to victory.
The end.
P.S. I retain the rights to this inspiring story in the event it is picked up by Hollywood.

Hey Vol,
I saw some of the Lady Vol's B-ball game tonight. It was on at the local pizza place.
Maybe you should challenge the ladies to a free throw contest.

I'd have to practice for that. They use a smaller basketball. Unfair advantage.

16 free throws in a row is impressive.

Razor, was there any previous doubt that you wouldn't be able to move a car eight feet while wearing slippers?

I'm having concerns about this bike. I've only been riding 1.5 years and this is the only the second bike I've owned, but something about it just seems off. It doesn't feel as stable as I believe it should. The wheels look true, but maybe they aren't. I'll have to take them and get them checked out
