4 weeks and one day 'til the first 10 mile time trial here and I'm still sorely lacking in speed. At least I'm climbing hills like a mofo. I've been riding with my 28T cog blocked off and got up my favorite Categorie 5 in the 42x24 no problemo.
Speed work on the flats begins today.

I finally got my pedals on Monday. And today I sent them back to the seller. He described them as new in the box, and when I got them out they looked like they were all scratched up and one side was scuffed in a way that looked like it had been crashed. The guy apologized and said he sent the wrong pedals, but I think he's just trying to save face. I got my money back and will look again.
I put an old pair SPD pedals on last night that a friend had laying around. Anyone have suggestions as to whether to put the cleats towards the tow of the shoe or to the back, or is it a personal fit issue?

I've put mine all the way back and have eliminated some hot foot issues I was having on my left foot. But yes, it's a personal fit issue.

I like the ball of my foot just a little forward of the pedal spindle so I'd probably install the cleats back a little bit myself.

I put them in the middle for now. I half-heartedly tried the spindle on a string test but it's was just too much to do alone

Just spoke with a local guy on craigslist. I can get a slightly used Ultegra 6600 crank with bottom bracket, and a set of Dura Ace 7800 pedals for $125 total. They won't be black which is what I want, but very cost efficient. Being someone who has a terrible time choosing between various options I'm stuck on whether to get this stuff, or spend about $215 and get this crank and a new set of 105 pedals.
Is it the right length and have the rings you want? Unless they're ground to smithereens the DA pedals are worth at least $75. Good deal if it's the right combo and are in good shape.

He'll sell the pedals for $30. That doesn't sound good. Trying to check them out tonight. If they are in at least decent condition then I'll take the pedals and go with the new Ultegra crank and just replace the pedals a bit down the road.

Times like these I wish I had spare cash laying around. This is a steal. I emailed to ask if it comes with the Zipps just out of curiosity. If it does, I'm pimping myself out to buy it.
