This thread highlights the worst part of all the doping that's gone on for decades...great performances are now always suspect, which really, really sucks.

Agreed, but it is great performances that people demand and crave. We live in a world of fantasy, and watching 180 guys, not on the juice "racing" for 3 weeks would probably not fit in with what people want today. Bigger, faster, stronger, quicker don't come without costs.

I'm sure his body and blood chemistry are as optomized as can be without triggering any of the known test procedures to switch from - to + . Amazing how that thin line between the two determines soo much.

I just can't believe he beat Cancellara in a TT. I'll wait for a couple of weeks.

This is the second time that he has beaten Cancellara in a ITT. He beat him last year as I recall. The fact of the matter is that he took 30 seconds on Cancellara on the hilly portion of the course but only beat him by 3 seconds. So in effect Cancellara rode faster over the flat sections of the course by quite a lot. This course was perfect for Contador.

Do you think Contador doped?
I personally don't think he doped but it kind of worries me when a 140 lb climber bests the best time trialist in the world on a flat course. Any thoughts?

It wasn't a flat course.

You consider a 4km, category 3 climb to be small and still "flat". I don't.

I hope he's clean for the sake of the tour.
But as some other people have said, he does not even look like he's stressed.
Shades of Ricardo Ricco last year?

I guess we wait and see.

But it's pointless question anyway. Until he gets caught and banned - who cares?

Looking at the splits Contador put 37 secs on Cancellara in the first 18k. That's pretty crazy considering Cancellara is arguably the best TTer in the world and that was the flattest part of the stage. Oh yeah so if you compare the 1st split times to the 3rd split times basically from 18k to 28.5K which the climb was from the 20K-28.5K mark, Cancellara only lost 8 seconds. He is definitely not a climber but his speed on the flats almost completely make this climb negligible. Contador climbed it in 8:25 and Cancellara in 9:05

A lot of people struggled with that "speed bump". That portion of the course definitely favored a climber.
