Bikes: too many bikes from 1967 10s (5x2)Frejus to a Sumitomo Ti/Chorus aluminum 10s (10x2), plus one non-susp mtn bike I use as my commuter

I guess you never knew that Napoleon was a Corsican. But in all fairness, Corsica used to be part of Genoa (Italy), thus the Italian place names, until it broke away, and was much later swallowed up by France. (but that was all before Nappy was born, so it's been a French for a couple of hundred years now.

I only knew of Corsicans from some spy novels where they always seemed to be the Sicilians of France (ie sort of underworld characters). Didn't know of the Napoleon connection.

Mods are working overtime, merging the Armstrong talk into specific threads. The flood of doping talk will calm down soon, and doping threads are easy to avoid.

And of course, you can feel free to start a thread about some racing stuff, though the season is basically over so there isn't much to discuss right now.

Lance song parody
My apologies to Allan Sherman and the "Camp Grenada" song

(USADA is pronounced “You-sadda”)

Hello muddah, hello faddah
I’m getting hassled, by USADA
Travis Tygart, is irritating
I’d have lots more fun if they’d all stop complaining

I went biking with my friend Hein-e
Plus super Phil that looney Limey
And Contador sent beef for dinner
No matter what, to them they said I am a winner

All the journalists hate the dopers
And the blogs are full of mopers
And my old coach is getting busted
But without doping I would have gotten dusted.

I don’t dope, so screw you WADA
I don’t dope, f*** off USADA
I don’t care, what my teammates say
They’re broke while I am getting paid
Read my lips, I promise I did not dope
Bruyneel stays mum I really hope
Oh please don’t make me say
“I doped every f***ing day”

So I guess Greg is now a hero
And the whole world thinks I’m a zero
But I have still got lots of money
Gonna flash some coin and get a hot young honey

Wait a minute what is that noise ?
Just remaining saddened fan boys
Forgive the dopers even Chris Horner
I think I’ll go sulk in the corner.

Napoleon actually was Italian, ethnically. His family roots are in Tuscany. His birth name was Napoleone di Buonoparte. His father was Carlo di Buonoparte and his mother was Letizia Ramolino. He changed his name to Napoleon Bonaparte in his mid-20s. Corsica had been ceded to France by Genoa the year before he was born. French national, but ethnic Italian.

I knew that degree in Humanities would come in handy someday.

I remember when Lance cameback from cancer and all the talk was about how he used to be an *******, but cancer was a life-changing experience and now he's changed. However, in light of all the reports, not only did he seem to go back to the old way of doping, but his confrontational demeanor did not change, which begs the question: Is there really such a thing as a life-changing experience? Or, maybe, are some people just not capable of change?

I'm not a religious guy, but all this reminds me of an interview with Lance years ago during his initial comeback. One of the questions people are asked when surviving something like this is about spiritual awakening or divine intervention.... I was struck at his answer, which I can't quote anymore, because it was so long ago, but what it left me with was his seemingly contempt for the question, it was as if he wanted everyone to know it was him and his strong desire to beat this disease. I don't have a problem with that belief, but I do specifically remember being struck by his disdain for the idea that he couldn't do this himself.

Ponder this. Since Armstrong never failed to pass a drug test, how do we know that the second place finisher, now the winner didnt also dope********** The whole damned thing is stupid and should never been brought up after all these years.

Why do you think the wins are being vacated rather than given to lower placers?

I suggest you backtrack about a month, get caught up, and then edit your post.

Yeah!

And has anyone considered that he should be forgiven because so many others were doping?

THey have considered that? Oh. Never mind.

How long will people cling to the myth that he never failed a test?

Don't know and <sighs>.

Marion Jones never failed a dope test too. And to the best of my knowledge, I don't think Hincapie ever failed one too. There are many pro cyclists who never failed a dope test, but have now come forward to say they did use PEDs.

Just a food for thought.

This pretty much sums it up for me. Either all of these people who came forward to admit doping are lying (and not all of the people made deals with the USADA), or it is clear that the testing is no where near 100% effective. I strongly believe it is the latter.

And, I ride a 'bent but still know what's going on. (Somebody had to say it ).

Cheers,
Charles

Actually, there was something wrong with the software. When I composed the post, it had in it, but it defaulted to the lower-case d, and I tried correcting it four times, gave up, and used the wink instead. It also defaulted your quote to :d.

We'll see what happens with the this time!

Yea!! It worked.

It is that stupid "feature" that refuses to let you post with all uppercase letters. It changes everything to lowercase if there are no other lowercase letters.
