Zinger and jyl - I agree, I think it is a good move by Lampre and it sounds like they have a good plan. I wonder how much of a struggle it will be for Horner on a new team as the only american. Was he ever not with Trek?

Funny you ask. His first pro team was Francaise Des Jeux in the late 90's. He ended up coming back to race in America mainly due to language and isolation issues. When he did go back to Europe he started on French teams but then went to Astana alongside Leipheimer and then Armstrong and he then went with them along to what eventually became Trek.

But there is a big difference between being a 20 something rookie and a 42 year old veteran, and I am sure he will make the best of it.

I'm sure he'll be fine. I recall during the Vuelta he was doing interviews in Spanish. I know Lampre is Italian but I mean he's probably pretty polyglot by now. Anyway, what is the functional vocabulary required in a bike race anyway? I'm guessing 100 words. [I'm, you're, he's] [flying, good, f--ked, flatted, crashed]; must [get in break, work, guide to front, chase back, sit back, get water, give food, give wheel, give bike] . . . You get the idea.

You know, I was thinking a Lampre jersey is a pretty good stand-in for a "hi viz pink" jersey . . .
