The Heat Is on In Florida

June and early July Is the hottest part of the Florida summer. The Regular afternoon storms and the daily Sea breeze Is not happening yet, nothing to cool us down. Today like yesterday was a ballpark 95 degree's, feels like's running 102ish' Yeah Yeah I know the western heat Is hotter, dryer and can kill you faster and all that.
But It seems the Humidity here hides early heat stroke symptoms to many untill It's just too late.

The weather man was saying people should stay Indoors today, no strenuous exercise, Do you think I'd listen ? Naw,, course not ..

My point to this rambling you ask ?

Being In Shape and knowing how to hydrate really wipes out all the over 50 complaints and gripes I tell ya !

I took my Recumbent out In the peak heat of the day, 1 pm, blazing sun, not much breeze, just thick sticky, soupy humid heat.

I warmed up my engines and shoveled on the coals, Took my self up to max Q and held it for most of my 12 mile local loop, slowing only for traffic.

I'm Good,,,,,

Just sayin,,

Riding here is awful right now. Hot and humid, with daily thunderstorms and rain popping up right about the time I get home from work and want to ride.

I've only managed to do 18 miles since Sunday

Here is WV Hot and humid, and even 98% humidity at 8 am. I ride mornings but it feels like I need my scuba gear on just to breath, I'm only glad I don't have COPD.

I rode on Wednesday and it was freakin awful. Got out there after work about 5pm and it was still 101. Even the shade felt hot with no breeze. Can't wait for the fall.

I live in west central Florida and in the hot months I ride early in the morning and try to stay on the shady parts of the bike trails when the sun starts getting hot.

I have been putting in the long miles the past month or so, planning on a full century ride at Sebring this year on the Labor Day weekend. So, last Saturday I wanted to do about a 70 mile training ride. Was out of bed around 5am, and on the bike at 5:45 in the dark. Got back around 10:30 or so, before the worst of the days heat set in. The way the temps have been, that's all you can do. I'm planning to ride 80 miles on Friday this week, and will be doing it the same way. On the bike in the dark, and headed down 78 towards Moore Haven with lights blazing.
