scott, the other wheelbuilding book i have besides the brandt one is by gerd schraner. seeing that my hubs won't be in for 1.5-2 weeks, you can borrow it if you feel the need to consult another source. i have both books for some reason.

i was torn between the two.

but the bicycle mechanics fourms told me to get the one by brandt.
after i'm finished with it, i might take you up on the offer if i'm not a pro wheel builder by that point.

I'm about to attack my [stuck] seat post. Wish me luck. I am armed with a lubricant, hacksaw and a drill.

I hope you're not going to try to cut/thread your own spokes. It's much more practical for anyone who doesn't build 100's of wheels a week to just buy pre-cut spokes to the right length. You barely even save money doing it yourself, you just don't have to keep every length in stock. Plus, unless you have a friend with the uber-expensive machine to thread them, you're looking at quite the investment.

ahh ha, thanks jacob. I had all intensions to buy pre cut and threaded spokes for one reasons.

i didn't even know you could buy them uncut and unthreaded

I'm also not up to par with my wheel building lingo, the word I was looking for was .....LACING.

Phil's spoke cutting/threading machine is over $3000, just as an example of the cost involved. Most places don't have these things.

the weather looks mild this coming week, and i only work till 4ish, so lets ride bikes every night! also my bike is temporarily blinged with a 16 spoke shimano front wheel that landry's lent me while they get me a new axle. I'll post pictures of what my bike looked like after meeting some black ice while attempting to go to work on thursday morning when I get back to boston.
