FYI,if New Channel 8 can be believed,we should be clear from about 6-11pm. Last time wasn't bad at all, worst part was sweating in rain gear the whole time.

Wonder how the traffic will be around Sherwood? Hopefully they'll get that Capitol mess cleaned up by then. (for those of you not watching the news, the cops busted two guys with a suspicious package in their car at 1st & Constitution)

I've never been on one of these pirate ride deals, they sound like fun, but I thought I would go ahead and let people know about this if anyone happens to be interested.

Damn, Proteus is practically next door to my apartment. Are you in the area as well? We could meet up to ride down to one of the DC things if you're going sometime.

I meant to make it out to one of those deals in the summer because, the school year is bad for me time-wise. I might try to make it out to this wednesday thing if I don't have too much work to do.

i have to give a cheers and a shout out to the lovely people at "base" which i call "goul."

here's the story for those who missed it...
we walk into warehouse, requesting (jokingly) a pitcher of irish coffees.
they brew us up a press pot of coffee, and dump in 1/2 bottle of jameson.
strong irish coffee, for all of us, and then some.
and charged us $20 for it.

daaaaaaang.

this may or may not have something to do with the fact that peter got some woman at the raven to write her number on his arm, and that sol wiped out (gently) on 16th street, and that i was once again late for work the next morning.

nope,,
you lost me there,,
just don't see the connection.
/sarcasm

so this weekend did not bring the best news.
I'm affraid a couple of things didn't go well.

On Saturday, LBK and I hooked up in Arlington in an attempt to print all the shirts.
Unfortunately, all the hard work she put into this project came to a screeching halt when the screen we had burnt and ready to go revealed a "ghost image" from a past print. This image showed up in the prints and we both agreed (much to her dismay) that we would have to put the project on hold while a new (or clearner) screen is procured.

And secondly,

To all my people out there rooting for me to ride fixed, a tradgic blow was dealt this weekend, as this guy emailed me and told me he won't be selling me his steamroller.
This really messes with my game plan a little bit, and looks like it means I'll be rolling through Chicago geared.

** the shame ***

all is not lost, tink. there is still plenty of time.
perhaps you should join the growing ranks of conversion riding pirates? if you're really despirate, pull something cheap off craigslist and replace the rear wheel.

Yes, this is true. and you neglect to mention some lucky pirate will be donning a tee-toga or tee-dress in Chicago. It seems the American Apparel does NOT run small in guys' shirts. huh. way to keep the customer guessing. Anyway. I'm going to re-order some extra smaller sizes, and hold on to the larger ones in case we ever get a Big Fat Pirate to join our ranks. or an ogre. geez. Long story short, one way or another we will have shirts for Chicago.

In better new: Poop was gracious (and foolhardy--watchout boy scouts!) enough to drag a bike shop's worth of equipment to Roosevelt Island and help me put together my be-a-ut-iful and fun fun fun conversion, which has a smokin headbadge by the way. THANK YOU POOP; i owe you. I'm proud that I then was able to brave about 15+ (?) miles on the hazard-ful Mt Vernon trail, with about 3 inches of toe overlap to boot. It was a great October day for a ride-- thanks poop, dynaryrider, and spud. Spud, did your chain hold out for the return trip?

toe-overlap (toverlap, if you will) is the way for us shorter types. i have at least 4" on the rensho. you'll get used to it. i haven't been killed yet. (Oh, and I just realized that I haven't wiped out in a really really long time).

I was a little upset, because it's a lot, and I've never had it before. But then I realized it comes up in situtations where you have to think about turning anyway. (slow u in a parking lot, where I first noticed) What's one more thing to think about?!?! It never became an issue once we got out riding. But then I (surprisingly) didn't have to swerve quickly to avoid squirrels/rollerbladers/rollerblading squirrels. Quick swerves--I"m going to be crashing most likely.

LBK, It was a pleasure to work on such a beautiful machine under the sun in such a picnic setting And you should have seen the look on people's faces as I rolled thru traffic w the shop workstand in my rucksack.

Plus you should even be prouder as the whole ride from Key Bridge & return is closer to 28+ miles!

Tried to approximate the route we did on the Google Maps pedometer. I think we actually did about 20 miles round trip. Still pretty good, considering the MUPpets we had to dodge.

And good on ya Spudster, for rockin' the big gears(50-something up front) and big tires(700x35,with tread yet). You just need to have Chimbly teach you how to stop quickly without the benefit of a hillside.

Me thinks that it was further than 20. 1. we were a few miles south of belle haven marina
2. we were about 200 yards from the water fountain where the kids sell lemonade 3. the lemonade stand is less than 6 miles from trail end. But I have not been on the Mt V trail in a while. 4. besides, we can't trust your memory, you got clobbered on the head by a stack of aluminum bars

btw: spud, next time, aim for the children

Yeah, that was 13 and M...one block east, two blocks north...or .33 miles according to the gmap pedometer.
Yeah, I know, I am a huge dork.

By the way, how many of you guys ride brakeless on these things? Now that I have two bikes, I get to decide which to ride...the fast one with no brakes or the beater with brakes.

I ride brakeless and it hasn't been a problem except when I had some crappy SPDs that I was popping out of. I have TIME ATACs now so it's all good.
