my uncle once got a bill from revenue canada for income tax owing; the grand total was $0.02, so he taped two pennies to a piece of paper with a copy of the bill and sent it to the prime minister. perhaps that is a course of action worth taking...

EDIT: Oh and also if anyone knows a shop that sells trainers that'd be helpful too
doesn't cycle solutions carry the cetma racks? i saw a little blackburn rack at sweet petes that attaches in the front brake hole and onto the canti studs and acts like a basket support/base (a sort of copt of the nitto one). that looked like a nice option too.,..

Do they both fit in there? I was thinking about doing this, but am still trailer-less.. haven't been able to find a good CL deal on a chariot in good shape.

Apparently in the eyes of Toronto's finest, motorists have the right of way to give cyclists a right hook.

OFFS...

People need to put things in perspective. What if the cyclist was a car in his lane and some other car came from behind and served in front of it... Yeah the car should have slowed down to avoid the collision of course!!

That's freakin' sad. The bike lane may be partially to blame too.

I wonder if he signaled his right turn so that the cyclist could avoid it as he was "coming from behind"?
Frak BLs and the false sense of security they promote.

I'm pretty sure turning right from the inside lane is illegal.

note how the article uses blaming language of the cyclist "crashing into a van" and "he hit the side"... oh, and don't forget to add that he didn't have a bucket on to catch all the fluids leaking out of his brain after GETTING SMUCKED BY SOMETHING x100 LARGER.

Inside lane Brad? I just wanna know how far ahead of the rider he was.... if he was far enough ahead ...why wasn't he clear of the intersection already? Did he start a turn he couldn't finish? hmm that's illegal too. Did he not see the rider as he passe him in the BL? hmm careless.... If he'd done even a reasonable facsimile of due diligence while driving the cyclist sooo should have been able to avoid this.

so does the bike lane not have the right of way? isn't it the drivers responsibility to wait for any cylists to pass through, which he would have seen as he went by the cyclist.

I always thought you had the right of way on the right and that the right hook was on the drivers, if that's wrong that would definitely be a nice piece of information to have.

Also, why use a photo of an old bike accident? someone elses misfortune is now stock photography? c'mon.

all bike lanes end long before the intersection... 'dashed line' at best. So....you're on your own. If you are behind... you are the overtaking vehicle and the onus is on you 100%. That is why I wondered about how far ahead he was when he turned.

The police use the insurance fault determination regulations when determining whether or not to lay charges in some cases. I believe in this case they have applied p.7, rule #5 incorrectly, since the rules do not cover bike lanes. Normally, you cannot make a right turn from any but the curb lane. The rules (and police) believe the van turned legally, so they look for other ways of determining fault.

I think the whole broken bike lane line at intersections is a recipe for this type of disaster...
I cant count the amount of times someone just randomly starts cutting in the bikelane unaware of the numerous cyclists beside them. I saw one guy yell at a lady that it was his right of way to turn right and cut her off as she was heading straight citing the broken line as the reason why. it makes no sense to me but maybe its just me...i just go around knowing im gonna get killed staying in that stupid @$$ bikelane at an intersection... its already begun...nutty seasonal cyclists and even nuttier summer weather car drivers...oh noes. and that star article comes off as "its the stupid reckless cyclists fault!"

Yeah right hooks usually occur when the driver comes too quickly for the cyclist to react. When the car is a truck more often than not the cyclist will die in a right hook.

The fact that the BL stops at the intersection shouldn't make it a lane anymore. Or it should have dedicated lights. Or you should systematically stop at each intersection. Or you should take the car lane on the left. Needless to say bike "lanes" are dangerous. I hope the guy makes it.

^^devil's advocate here^^ I've seen too many riders flyin' up the gutter, despite coming up on cars with right signals on. There is one lane at the intersection. If you come up on someone turning/signaling right you back off or carve left. To time it so the van 'makes' the rider smack the side is some tricky driving if the rider is being defensive at all. Something's not reading right with this report..I'm thinkin' epic fail in not seeing the cyclist as he passes and right turning, = careless or if he did see = aggressive either way I fail to see how it could be the riders fault, you gotta some kinda stupid to just keep riding if the van driver passed properly.

I had that guy drifting over from the centre lane to the curb lane right on top of me. You know the one who KNOWS b/c he's bigger your going to back off? He was wrong ... I started drifting towards him til I was in middle of curb lane.. he then "all of a sudden" booted back to centre. I looked in the passenger window I had been lined up with the whole time.... he had this WTF look on his face. I said , dude you want over, try signaling and then either get in front of me or behind me ... do not just push over.

I just saw an e-bike flying up a one-way street the wrong way. The guy must have been doing at least 25km/h and had no helmet...madness.

krusty: the stem is awesome! Fits the Campione Del Mondo bars perfectly! Thanks again!

i saw an ebike ... last night helmetless. stop on queen E at the 7-11 and then use the crosswalk.... madness I tell ya.
I think we're just setting the stage for the electrically assisted boomer generation. 25-50kph old folks with too much money and insurance. I saw a cat in his electric chair taking on the curb lane as I rode in one morning. Ballsy
