Foo - I be downtown. Have class 1-4 though.

Someone ought to inform him about the resale value of diamonds. :)

Are you suggesting that it's better or worse than bikes? (I have no idea.. I just buy em, I don't sell em :P)

I'll probably swing by around 4 or so just to drop in.. I got a bit of work done yesterday, so there's not much left to do until I get a wheel. Don't suppose you have a spare 130bcd/42 chainring lying around?

110bcd 42 yes. Uh there is a 42, 130bcd biopace chainring floating around if you want to try that

Should I just contact Marzocchi Canada?

I have a few old blown up forks that still have studs on em. Between those and the studs I have on hand I can set you up.

Thanks for checking.. but that's what I was trying to replace :P I know sheldon brown says you can do fixed gear with biopace, but I'm a little bit skeptical.

FWIW, we've tried this at bikechian before. The variation in chain tension doesn't inspire confidence in the non-chain drop dept.

Bit of an odd one, but anyone know how big a ring you can put on the Truvativ Stylo SS crankset and still make good use of the chainring guard?

That's awesome... The studs are actually for a fork I gave Ryan (Dr.Benway) so he may ask you about them when he brings his IRO in later this week for some BB TLC...

It's funny to read. Or maybe I am just really tired and delirious goodnight.

It's not you...as a former Madisonian, I can assure you that the writing in local newspapers there is total excrement. Usually terrible and lazy, just for good measure.

You're a studs.

Man it's sticky out there. Enviro Can says "SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH". I don't doubt it with this warm humid weather and the cold front moving in for tomorrow. Gonna be quite a show methinks. :) My gf asked me this morning whether the rain kept me awake last night, to which I said "there was rain?" She's forgetting that I once slept through the smoke detector going off in our room (due to a fault somewhere else in the house).

Does anyone here have much hands-on experience with any heart rate monitors and/or higher end cycle-computers/etc?

nerdsgirth 05-15-07 11:22 AM

Any 19t 1/8 cogs kicking around anywhere? Does cavern carry em? PM me

TRaffic Jammer 05-15-07 11:23 AM

Only with the machine that goes "ping.." Man that was rain...even woke me up.

I'm not sure what qualifies as "high end" but I've got a flight deck on my road bike and a specialized speedzone elite on my mountain bike.

The flight deck is OK, the hood buttons are neat but more of a gimmick as I don't tend to switch menus while actually riding. Also the gear indicator is a nice feature. Overall though I wouldn't say it's worth the money (around 200 by the time you get set up) the cadence feature on this is actually a "virtual" cadence based on your speed and gearing. So technically if you were to coast down a big hill in first it would show you were running 300rpm cadence. Doesn't really matter anyhow as it doesn't track average cadence.

As much as I dislike Specialized flash and marketing, I have to say some of their stuff is pretty nice (like the sweet S-works M4 FS XC rig I'm tuning up at the moment) I also count that computer among their good stuff. It's been really reliable, the menus and functions are great and it cost half what the shimano did. It also has a real cadence feature (which I don't use 'cause I don't like the extra sensor/wire) and a backlight, both of which are not included on the shimano. Also- countdown timer for time or distance intervals and better lap timing if you're into that.

somnambulant 05-15-07 11:33 AM

necessary features: heart rate monitor + computer interface (because I'm a stats nerd)

I've got a friend with a powertap... and that is one cool toy. Costs a couple bucks though!

(the s-works is a 2000 model but it's still awesome- one of the few FS XC bikes I've actually liked)

TRaffic Jammer 05-15-07 11:46 AM

You know you're a Montrealer when: everyone on the street - drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists - think
they're immortal, and that you'll move first... so true

Pedestrians in MTL scare the shizzle out of me. :P

Yeah.. I'm actually liking the high end Polar stuff because you can add the power bits later as an add on if you want. I don't see myself ever getting serious enough to really warrant something like that, but at least it's there if I want it. Plus I can easily just buy another speed sensor for the Polar and then use it on multiple bikes. I can't really do that with say a Powertap (at least, not for 26" vs. 700c wheels). Plus yeah, the initial cost of a Powertap system is going to preclude me.. :) Although they do turn up used occasionally.

On Polar - I've been using a lower end polar HRM (F6.. no bike-related goodies involved) to keep an eye on my maxHR/avgHR/zones while out on training/group rides.. it does the job, but the amount of data collected for transfer is disappointing (i.e. only max, average, and time spent in one zone). Also - I would recommend avoiding anything that uses soniclink for data transfer.. it's a bit unreliable in windows (where it's intended to work), and I suffered quite a bit of annoyance trying to get it working in linux.

So broadway cycles has failed me.

over 3 weeks ago I ordered through them a rear avid short 4 brake and a kalloy uno OS riser stem. They said it would be a few days. I called them after a few days, and they say it came in. I come in the next day and they admit that they haven't even ordered it. They say they will order it that day and it should be in soon. I call a week later, they say both parts are on their way. I call today and they say that the stem is on backorder and that norco doesn't even have the brake. I gave them my phone number on 3 occasions and asked them to call me about any delays. I even paid in advance so I have to go and get a refund now.

The moral of the story is, does anyone know who stocks IRD stems in the city? I need 25-30 degrees of rise, 1 1/8" steer clamp, 31.8 OS bar clamp. I also need a replacement avid shorty brake (number doesn't matter, as I am reusing the hardware from my shorty 6)
