tonight was fun, i joined in on the group ride and lost the group after the stairclimb. the last 3 weeks i have been in and out of the hospital with a blood infection from somekind of insect bite i got while working in vancouver. all this was too draining to do any real riding so my cardio went to nothing, not to mention it was wierd having a direct IV line in my arm for 8 days.

after peddling though the feeling of bonking i finally allmost catching up to the group i tried to run a yellow light and was flagged by a cop. he asked if this was a race and i said nope just out for a group ride. he asked where my front light was and i told him somoene took it yesterday, they did. he belived me and while i was being lectured about lights and riding i had to wait for two light to pass and with no chance to catch up i rode down yonge street and across king to the CNE did two laps and finally home.

i learned tonight i need to go back to doing 30km a night rides everyday like i did before i got sick. its fortunate you stuck with the trainer Dan the stronger you are the faster the recovery.

Yay Dan, congrats! :D

Sounds ****ty Fil, hope you're feeling better soon. Group ride?

I think a bunch of us should do the donut sometime soonish. I'm somewhat drunk right now, post rock and post post-rock nacho's and beer, so don't quote me on that. :)

ps. new bike should be hopefully assembled by next weekend. If so I'll bust it out for ze Friday safety meeting.

Yes please. I'm testing my new alcohol limit tonight. Last one was 2.3L @ 4 hours, 5% on the floor drunk.

Danhalen 10-05-07 09:51 PM

Yeah I'd love to get some donut ride action in before it gets cold (although cold weather never stopped me before...). I'm not quite up for that yet though. Time will tell how soon my shoulder will allow me to do that. I went around the block a few times tonight and that was enough. Still felt friggen great though! I'm going to be home this weekend for the most part, although I'm meeting Kasper for coffee in the market tomorrow morning if anyone wants to meet up (either Ideal or Moonbeam...). I'll be back around monday too if anyone wants to ride a bit (Rob etc.).

P.S. Another problem re: donut ride. My road bike STILL isn't back from Berlin! As of last week my friend there hadn't even sent it yet! So that could put a big of a damper on things. ****!

operator 10-05-07 09:56 PM

Pfft. I've done the donut many times on fixed. Don't need a road bike for it.

Danhalen 10-05-07 10:03 PM

Yeah I'm pretty sure my brakeless track bike (fork isn't even drilled and not designed for a brake) wouldn't be a big hit. I'm going to have to get my winter bike/conversion going I guess. For said winter bike I'm thinking of building it basically like a winter training roadie. Possibly with two brakes. Maybe that's overkill. Maybe brake hoods and one brake. I dunno. But I think that would be better for the donut ride (brake hoods, brakes etc.)

operator 10-05-07 10:07 PM

I think it'd be a little wee bit irresponsible to be in a big peloton and not have any brakes...

Danhalen 10-05-07 10:10 PM

Yes I would tend to agree

I'm going to bed. If anyone wants to meet me and kasper in the market tomorrow morning just drop me a line. l8r mstrb8rs

1. Dan, you rule - glad you're back on your bike.
2. I suck, or rather, my bank account does. I'm trying to get a 29er mountain bike together, but there's also my IRO Rob Roy group buy frame to build ... and that minor detail of financing a program at Humber that isn't eligible for OSAP. Sooo ... the hopes of full XT + goodies have just flown right the **** out the window, and I'm now just trying to find ANY permutation that ends up being a complete bike I can afford. Instead of the new XT, I'm thinking I'll have to go LX. Also, what are the cheapest hydros that don't suck complete ass? I'm not even sure if Juicy 5s are in the budget now.

My priorities for the bike are basically frame/fork/wheels ... brakes need to work for xc and beyond that I'll need to get the cheapest that isn't a waste of cash.

Edit: Umm ... fixed gear.

A friend just emailed me asking for a good place for a bike tune up near Yonge and College. Anyone know?

Thats kind of in no mans land. East the closest is Cycle Solutions on Parliament....West is going to be La Carrera....past that he/she would have to travel quite a bit further.

Oh wow. Here's a nuanced political statement:

Finally finished fiddling with the Marinoni, I've almost got the fit dialled in and it rides nicely now. I see that the Sella San Marcos Rolls saddle is only 32$CAN on Probikekit now, I may buy one, does anyone have experience with those seats?

Yes, I bought it a week ago. I think I dropped by Urbane to check out the Brooks saddles, I cannot recall why I was there to be honest.

Happy long weekend, everybody!

Thanks Dan/Wes/Toby for fielding my ridiculous chaintool issues yesterday, and hope your head heals fast, Cavernmech.

My fixie will be rideable again (finally!) on Tuesday. Anyone want to ride about and get gelato?

Oh man that is beautiful! Nice work! I have experience with a Rolls saddle. Honestly in my opinion it is not as comfortable as a modern saddle. As far as old school saddles, personally i found the Turbo more comfortable. Some people are the other way around. They are very similar, just depends on the shape of your bum I should think. Judging by the setup of your bike in that picture it looks like you like to ride with a good amount of setback (so do I. yay for long femurs!!). If so you may find that the rails on a Rolls are too short. Modern saddles like SLR's etc have the rails biased further back and also the rails are longer so you can mess with your position more. When I had a Rolls I had it all the way back and I still wanted more setback. That was with a 74 degree seat tube, which is probably what you got. Again it depends on your preferences/bike geometry etc. Basically the bottom line is, a Rolls or similar old style saddle may limit your fit options. Looks pretty cool though :D If you are happy with the fit as is, with your current saddle I would just leave it. Looks cool actually!

pyze-guy 10-06-07 09:20 PM

Mmm, gelato is yummy. I'll try to make it for a ride, been awhile since I've been out and about.
