If it's anything like his black frame it's also about the size of a 24" bmx frame. :)

He unfortunately, free-locked the bike, for like 2 minutes...

That sucks, but the bike is pretty unique so it will be hard to move. Orange deep Vs, what are the hubs? From where exactly in Kensington was it stolen? I am betting it was a crackhead.

In which case, check the dumping spots: Uncle Jacobs and Igor.

Let George at parts unknown know too in case someone tries to dump it there. George is straight-up but a crackhead may not know that. They'll want to dump a bike like that fast, either parting it out or entire. Check local nooks and crannies. With a lock on it, they may have stashed it close by until they could get a bar or jack to try to pop the lock.

I'll be around Kensington on foot - taking pictures, I'll keep my eyes peeled.

No one needs this... people can be a$$holes.

Surly Hubs. I believe it was near 38 Kensington Avenue because there was a party there last night that I didn't make it to. **** I can't believe this he just got that frame built up this week too!!

Toby & Friends - start flyering all the bikeshops. I doubt anyone would be stupid enough to actually bring it in to a bike shop but you never know.

Word of mouth can be better. If the dirtbag sees flyers all over town he might just stuff it in a basement and forget about it.

operator 06-30-07 11:13 AM

Yeah addendum: by flyering I mean give out a copy of said flyer with picture to the staff so that they're aware of it, not by tacking it onto a bulletin board. I just saw his bike yesterday morning in urbane as well.

:/

poor toby. i can only imagine what a horrible realisation that must have been. hope someone finds it safe and sound soon!

I was out doing errands and dropped in on the pawn shop on Queen at Gladstone, Uncle Jacobs and Parts Unknown and there was no sign of it, bummer. Uncle Jacob was quite frank and said that he doesn't buy stolen bikes as it isn't worth it. As I was talking to him, a guy who was about 5'5" came by with a 64cm Fuji tourer looking to sell "his" bike for 20bucks; Uncle Jacob told him to get lost.

It is that time of year folks, the vagrants/squeegee kids/Montreal punks descend on Toronto when it is warm out and nothing should be left unattended; my neighour had a potted plant stolen from her porch last week :(

I would amend that to say that perhaps he doesn't buy stolen bikes anymore as I have personally known about 10 people to find their stolen bike in that place.

Agreed. He didn't say "anymore" but I definitely got the impression that he had had experiences with stolen bikes in the past. His shop used to be more of a pawn shop with all sorts of crap for sale but now it is mostly used bikes. He has even opened a bike store on Yonge by Zanzibars that sells new bikes. With all that bike experience, you'd think he would be able to pronounce "Bianchi" correctly...he kept saying "Beeyawn-sheee" when we were talking.

operator 06-30-07 02:03 PM

Just hope for some GPS beacons to drop price fast enough for it to be worth putting one in your bike. At least you could recover your frame that way.

So what's the deal, is Igor done and gone now? I haven't seen him around in weeks (months?) but it seems like if he really was gone someone would snatch up that property.

cavit8 06-30-07 02:57 PM

If there are any gaming handypeople in the crowd, I have two 8 direction arcade joysticks with 12 concave buttons, cherry microswitches to get rid of for ~$20. They're not Happ's as far as I can tell, but all the switches seem to work. I bought them to build mini-consoles for my ps2 but I've decided that's a little too geeky even for me.

I saw him yesterday out front with a bunch of junkie bikes.

Damnit.

If your asking about the place accross from Tinity Bellwoods - that place is totally open, and in full swing.

I have passed by it at night many times in the past couple of weeks, and there is usually a pick-up out front with the bed pilled high with bikes - and ready and willing buyers.

I doubt I'll be going. After working 24 hours the last 2 days and leaving tomorrow at 10am for a catering on Lake Rousseau where the guests are to arrive at 7:00 means I won't be home until 2-3am, and I have no desire to get up to ride 4 hours later.
