Oh, you're right! I seem to remember punching it in google maps and seeing 186 but I just did it again and it says 130... my bad.

we cut right through the north end of the niagara escarpment (from meaford to owen sound) and even my lowest gears, it was a challenge - might be different with a lighter load, though. i was thinking maybe of heading northeast to penetanguishene? the georgian bay is so nice this time of year.

Add to that list our ****ing Lemond Tourmalet ... I have a 3' length of pipe set aside and ready to go already.

I'm going to try to get out of work 30min early today and see if I can meet up w/ C/M. The weather should be nice and it's been ages since I've ridden in one, let alone seen it go by. If anyone else is planning on showing up please let me know. I may need to call someone's cell number once I get downtown to find out where people are currently at.

This has been my desktop image for about a week now. I just want to share the love: http://www.flickr.com/photos/rky_mtn_srfr/290736114/

i rode 100km and back in the opposite direction to darlington provincial park (the 'schwa) a few years ago on a generic hybrid bike... it took pretty much the whole day each way with detours/mechanical difficulties/food breaks but i was glad i did it, and would like to try something similar now that i'm a better rider and have better gear. no tent, just rope between two trees and a couple tarps for the thunderstorm...

Exactly what I was thinking. My roadbike doesn't have rack doohickeys, so I'd probably just use one of those seatpost clamp-on ones to carry some essentials. I'd like to give one of those Hennessy Hammocks a go.

zippered 06-29-07 12:12 PM

it worked surprisingly well: we put our bikes against one tree to block off one end, and a poncho at the other end and it became like a little cocoon.

DIY FTW!

(i finished my errands in 40 min and am now home... helloooo loooong weeeekend!)

I grew up down there and have wanted to do that ride for some time. I would be down for that trip. I've been wanting to try it fixed as well but I'm not quite sure how doable that is.

I went down to Riverdale park with the lady to watch a friends ball game the other night and my lady and I jokingly started to ride up that crazy hill - with her basically challenging me to try and ride up it. Totally blew my mind - and hers as well - when I took a few super deep breaths and exploded up the hill - on 46x16 fixed w00t! Made it to the top in what felt like a record time and was crazy fun. Who's up for uphill sprints!?
