Challenging the laws of physics, Wes thought he could ride through the 3 ft high metal bar impeding his progress. Sadly the molecular structure of said bar prevented him from entry. A "tong" sound followed by an endo to somersault. Why oh why dont I always ride with a helmet cam?!

shapelike 07-14-07 06:50 AM

*d'oh* ... well, I assume that could have been much worse.

As it was his bars and knuckles (new nickname for Wes possibly?) took the brunt. If the bar had of been 6 inches higher he would have taken it right off the chest.

shapelike 07-14-07 07:01 AM

Ya, I'm going to avoid considering that one.

So who took it - random roadie scum from a local team again or someone interesting?

Glad to hear you're OK wes!

Well I just picked up my frame from Jetkote yesterday and I am NOT impressed at all! They sandblasted over the bottom bracket threads and also the threads on the brand spankin' new steerer tube that Malcolm installed on my fork (I was told that would not happen). Also the finish is really lumpy which I have been told is caused by the powder not being heated/melted enough. Furthermore, the sandblaster must have been set too high because the metal inside the tubes (which was not going to be blasted according to Maria) is all pitted instead of smooth! And as if that isn't ****ty enough, there is also a patch on the bottom bracket shell that is bare. As in bare metal. I am so pissed off about this it isn't even funny. Obviously I'm going to call them and complain but I don't want them to touch it so if they offer to fix it it's kind of redundant. Money back would be great but I don't expect that to happen. Ever feel like you've taken something beautiful and turned it into crap? Well I do. I wish I had just sanded the grey and painted some tremclad over there.

I realize other's experiences may have been different but personally I would heartily NOT recommend Jetkote.

Huh, that is a bummer. They did an okay job on my Ciocc but I preferred the job done by Spectrum; they don't sandblast for you but they did a good job of powder-coating 3 of my bikes. I would ask them to re-do it, especially since they missed a spot on the BB----that will definitely rust in time. I am however off of the powder-coating bandwagon, I've heard that the new acrylic spray paint from Tremclad is very similar to a powder-coat and much easier to use, obviously, as you do it yourself. I am painting the Razesa white sometime soon, I will let you guys know how it goes. This Pini is my inspiration, I figure the Razesa is pretty close geometry-wise and I like the decaling, it should be a fun project.

Bummer, dude. Sorry to hear about that.

What's funny is that I actually came here just now to PM you to ask you about Powder Coating because a friend of mine may be in the market for a paintjob in the next week or so...

Curbside dude is Evert. He does triathalons and stuff. He's pretty quick.

Damn that sucks man. I had mine done at spectrum. I talked personally with the guy who was going to do the masking/powdercoating and he seemed to understsand exactly what needed to powdered and what didn't.

Guess i'll scratch jetkote off the to recommend list now.

MattRennick 07-14-07 11:07 AM

K, so, if Spectrum is the place to go but they don't take care of blasting - does anyone have any recommendations for that?

Actually i've been taking too many drugs lately. I actually went to a place called Blast & Coat which did it for $75. 1300 Fewster in missisauga. Phone: 905-625-7739

They blasted + one coat. No clear, although I think they had that option though. Highly recommended. Stuff in my previous posts still stand. Even had them powdercoat my chrome steel fork. Also you only get to use the colours on the wall they have in the front of the office, anything else is extra I believe. Turnaround time was exactly 1 week.

P.S On a totally unrelated note, has anyone here taking flying lessons/ground school for a rec/private pilots license?
