I've been thinking about getting a bell for the road bike just in case I get pulled over... but thats kinda like a fixie in spandex
I went to the court office on Edward to please guilty with an explanation, hoping to have the fine reduced but the line up was soooo freaking long. I'd have to take a day off work. I decided to pony up the cash and be done with it. I'm much more obedient now.

I kind of like my little bell. It's out of the way and goes from 'ting to RING RING RING. I don't use it nearly as much as I did when I used the park paths for commuting. It's about the only option with oblivious ipod joggers wobbling down the middle of the path. I won't say much about the porky pig knock off electric buzzer I got in the GG raffle. It's so unbelievably obnoxious I want to beat myself up when I fire it off.
I did hear from James - he's drinking beer in Germany, the niblick!

those cops will ticket you for anything - i got a ticket for "improper bicycle lighting" once in broad daylight. and the cop who pulled me over was driving a court services van...without a siren. so he just cut me off and forced me to pull over. who knows what manner of criminal he was transporting. sorry, i'm still bitter about having to pay that one.

Perhaps the police are pre-judging you based on appearances.
I frequently get pulled over for traffic infractions. But once the helmet comes off and the cop realizes that I am not some fixie riding, tattooed scumbag he gives a verbal warning and "Have a nice day"

To any small footed members. I have a pair of Sidi Techno Mtn bike shoes in a size 43. They need a bit of love from a shoemaker (rear upper is coming loose from the sole) This was a common prob with older Sidis. Some shoe goo and a couple of small screws fix it easily) They are in otherwise excellent shape. Gratis to the first person who wants em.

when i was riding with the randonneurs they all had reflective tape on the forks and stays; apparently this is part of the HTA (ironically front and rear lights is not). i suppose they wanted to cover their bases and avoid hassles with cops. it's more likely though that they just wanted to be a lit up as possible riding on those country roads at night.
