ps. Nerdsgirth: you must have a doppleganger that haunts the west side... both bRAD and i went to stop and say hello to someone we thought was you (one-speeder, red bearded dude in white helmet :p )
Sweep, I should have dropped by for a hello. I was desperately looking to find an excuse to visit the ole stompin grounds. I am in for track 2! |

Good luck with the ride there + race tomorrow guys, I just rode back from the east end slightly inebbriated and pretty well caked solid with good ol' snow. Good times :p :) Bike's even more of a mess than it was before, but I'm over 6000kms now, w00t (new BB in it's short term future, mmhmm).
I believe birthday wishes are in order to Keith too... Hope you have a great day, man and all the best. |
Happy birthday, Keith!
So ... I was just about to head to bed but before that I wanted to check the quality of No Country for Old Men, which had just finished downloading. Needless to say, I kind of got sucked in. What a great movie. |
fack....just got in to work...heard this weird bubbling sound...looked all over the office to see what it could be...oh...that would be my back tire...leaking air....found a huge ass piece of glass wedged in the tire. Blood Claaaaaaaaaaaat!
edit: crap no tire levers....arghhhhhhhhh!!! |
Let all the air out, then squeeze out the rest of the air (every little bit will help with this). Press the sides of the tires off the sidewalls of the rims and in toward each other. Go all the way around and listen to the sickly/satisfying seal break loose. While you at it, make sure the tire bead drops down into the center groove the rim.
Now you need to really concentrate on starting at one point on the rim, pressing the tire beads hard into the drop of the rim and holding them there as you move away from the spot and further outward along the rim on either side (toward to exact opposite point on the rim). The idea here is to get yourself as much slack as possible so you can pull the tire off the rim on the other side. PS. If you've got Continental tires save yourself the blood blisters and pick up some new levers on your lunch break. |
Anyone want to ride out to East Humber Bay Park with me this morning for the 'cross race? :)
The race starts at 12:30, so I was thinking about leaving at about 11:30. |

yeah, make sure the tube isn't pinched anywhere and that the tire is seated evenly around the rim.. I usually pump a road tire up to about 50psi or so, check to make sure the 'line' on the sidewall is even around the circumference and if it looks good keep inflating up to about 100-115 (depending on the bike/tire/etc).
ps. Cycle Therapy were selling these little black clip-together Park tire levers for cheap a little while back that are handy for throwing in the flat-repair kit. Still got any of those Mike? |

I don't want to be responsible for someone clawing their own eyes out).

last time i saw converge their merch guy had picked up a stripper a few cities back and she was traveling with the band (well, him), she was definitely insane and nate would constantly do **** to her but she was too crazy to understand he was being an *******. |

Good on ya Keith! Happy new year everyone! Be safe and have fun.

My preferred tyre levers are the ones I got in a Supercycle "repair kit" - metal for a start, and they just work way better than the plastic trace ones I have (though I carry both sets in my wedge bag) - just gotta be mindful of the pinchy pinchy, but I've not had a prob.
Track wheelset n00b question (yay they got delivered today, w00t): When fastening the sprocket onto the hub, if the clearance between the teeth and spokes even "looks" too close, does that generally mean I need spacers? How does that all work? Would a pic help? I don't have any tools to properly crank it on there with the lockring anyway, so I'm able to putz about with it still. I'm also going to consult Sheldon as I'm clueless. |
I prefer plastic levers, I'm always a little worried with the metal ones that they'll hurt my rim. Likely not an issue, but it's always my concern.
