Will do, hopefully test#1 tonight. It's the Oregon Scientific thing, so I'm heading up to College on the way to get a SD card for it. I'm all excited and scared to death of the helmet strap making an appearance on "The Weakest Link"

So after 12+ years of running the shop I am feeling quite burnt out from the day to day grind. I have recently come to realize I just don't have the energy and drive to run it anymore. After much hand-wringing and thinking I have decided to get out of the business. I am not sure whether the shop will be sold or if I will just be liquidating and closing it down...the more likely scenario. So for the time being I am going to have a big ass liquidation sale. Pretty much everything in the shop is fair game (except my rigs) and no reasonable offer will be turned down. I would make up a list but obviously there is wayyy too much stuff to do that. If anyone here is looking for anything specific let me know and I will try to help you out. I will still be here for a few months yet but I want to thank everyone here who has supported the shop....you all rock! K.
P.s. for all the mechanics out there most of my tools will also be available....just not till the bitter end.

Keith nothing but the best buddy! I must admit, selfishly I feel sad that Cavern will be no more (Most untriumphant!). On the other hand I'm happy for you changing things up if that's what you want to do. Rock on K-Fresh!
P.S. Look at it this way when you're riding around you won't be too burnt out on bikes to tell people to put some air in their tires!

"We call that career 'the widow maker'!" </simpsons quote>
While your decision is shocking to me, I'm sure it's only because it's the first I've heard of it. You've probably been pondering it for a long time. It's always seemed like a pretty stressful job to me, so I can certainly understand why you'd want to get out. At the same time it's always kind of sad to see someone stop doing something they (I presume!) love doing, just because so often mixing things you love with your career tends to taint either your love of the activity or the job side of things (hopefully that made sense). E.g. I love photography, but would I ever want to be a photographer? Hell no!
I want to say "good luck in your future endeavors", but that sounds lame and also makes it sound like I won't see you anymore. I'm interested to know what your future holds, but I'll save that for an "over beer" conversation.
I'll definitely be taking a look through the shop to see what's available. I know I'm definitely in need of a headset for the IRO!

Yeah....I certainly love fixing bikes...I guess its fixing other peoples bikes that I have grown tired of That and "I paid less than that for the bike" when quoting repair costs, and similar comments, made me realize that it just isn't worth the effort anymore. If I was at La Bicicletta where I only wrenched on $5000+ bikes, and hide in the backroom, I could prolly keep doing it, but extreme snobbery is also a problem.
Surliness?...yes...snobbery?...no.
My intention for the last 2 years was to try and find the right person to take over the day to day and let me step back to get my fingers in some other pies. Alas the right person never came. Cest la vie.
I have a $80 King with yer name on it there Wesley.

I was planning on making you a little Cavern website on the house, but I guess that won't be necessary now. It's the thought that counts? hehehe

That Marinoni that someone posted a few weeks ago is now in the window of the Adidas store on Queen West.....it looks really nice but I think that the white deep-Vs are a bit odd. I guess that is that, if Adidas is in on it, we've become mainstream, prepare for a ton of fixed gear riders on the streets of Toronto. Maybe we can cash in, the GT must be worth oh, I dunno, 1500$USD

And holy crap Keith's closing down the shop. On one hand, *shocking* but on the other I'm in the same boat (minus the extra 9 years). I figured you'd get into the distribution side of the industry but I'm sure you'll figure something out that'll be enjoyable, whatever the case.

while catering a friends mexican themed house warming party tonight i was approached by a young man with tight pants, bad hair and an eating disorder that said he was looking for a bike and heard i had an extra frame that i wanted to part with. i said i do and its probably too small for his 1 meter inseam. he asked for places to look for a bike that might fit him. i rambled on with a list of friendly bike shops i know and asked what kind of bike he was looking for and he said "probably a fixed one but whats the deal with those anyway. i looked up from the mountain of tacos de pescado i was feverishly preparing and explained what the deal was... it basically came down to way more money then he wanted to spend on something to get him to and from the bar and that he heard that he could get a fixed bike at Bike Pirates for next to nothing... i replied with you can get you bike fixed there for next to nothing if you learn to do it your self.
