I think my closest local rink is actually dufferin grove... or mcormick. Both bad options. I'll have to look harder I guess

what about the one in high park?

EDIT: you could also try the duck pond in high park (between the castle-playground and the zoo off parkside).

Good ideas. How deep do you figure the duck pond is?

I made a new friend today! While waiting for the light at Dundas and Broadview, a truck turned right past me. The driver was yelling what I think was "I want to be you!" and waving. I waved back and smiled at him, happy to see a driver who really wishes he was on a bike. He continued waving so I pointed to my watch and urged him on. I wouldn't have wanted him to miss whatever urgent urban adventure awaited him. Picking up his drycleaning perhaps. Or returning a library book. Evidently my consideration overwhelmed him and he began waving even more excitedly. Fortunately, I prevailed on him to continue his mission and he drove off.

I must say after a week of dodgy riding conditions, this really made my day. I was so happy to provide an opportunity for my new friend to start his weekend with a smile as well.

I think this is the best way to deal with it. I remember I used to umpire baseball games and when parents yelled at me I'd always smile. Then after the game I'd go and say "hey, I appreciate the support. Have a great night" and I'd seem totally sincere. The look on their faces was worth the effort to keep from laughing.

Great place and great people. I do Saturday's ride at 8:00am for as long as my butt holds out 1 to 3 hours. And Dr Lewis is putting my knee back together, (she's a chiropractor). Now for the really neat stuff, I've just ordered a new Javalin Bertolo from Alan Chud, (co-director with Cindy Lewis) who handles Javalin bikes here in TO. I can't wait for next week!

nerdsgirth: is that place setup with the computrainer adapters for non-QR axles (so I can take my fixed gear?).

I totally would have if I had seen this during the day! I just woke up from a 3 hour nap. A 3 hour nap. It was awesome.

So nice! That seat tube looks like it is nearly 90 degrees, I wonder how it rides on the street?

pyze-guy 02-15-08 11:53 PM

Flimflam, was that you I saw around 12:30 at Danforth and pape? Conversion looks good.

This is a throwdown, a showdown. Hell no I can't slow down.
It's gonna go-down.

kylehutton 02-16-08 10:35 AM

who here is a mechanic?

i need someone to take a look at my conversion.
the non drive side crank moves about 10 degrees without the drive side moving.

new bottom bracket?

i've got a set of sugino mighty's for it, but need new pedals.
the current cranks are the shimano ax with the proprietary pedals.

Cottered cranks or regular square taper? If it's square taper the crank holes might've been rounded out from riding cranks loose. If it's cottered cranks the pin might be loose.

kylehutton 02-16-08 10:44 AM

they're square taper.

i'll pull it off and take a look.

I_bRAD 02-16-08 10:52 AM

Could be a busted BB axle too, although I imagine that'd be pretty sloppy axially too.

operator 02-16-08 10:53 AM

I thought about that, but wouldn't it just keep turning around both sides, and not catch after a while? Actually that doesn't seem to make sense for rounded out crank arm hole either.
