You bring your own bike, slap it on a computrainer and go for a ride with up to 15 other folks with simulations of hills/etc. There's a screen showing everyone's data (power, speed, heartrate, etc). Not sure how the HRM works, as the thought of strapping a 'used' heart rate strap around me and sweating like a pig seems a little gross to me. :P Apparently a day pass is $20. I wouldn't mind checking it out while the conditions outside still suck for longer rides.

Yep, I'd love to get a feeling of my power output just for sh1ts and giggles, and I've never used a HRM so that'd be interesting info too.

I am actually friends with the Dir. Cindy Lewis. I will give her a shout and see what she can do for us. Please state your interest.

I'd be into doing this is a bunch of us are. I'll challenge you fools to one legged power test.

I was plannig on using the campy crank on geared bike, but am not sure about making the bike 8 or 16 spped for my wife. I might sell the crank, or swap it if anyone has a 110 bcd crank they aren't in need of.

Nice! Yeah, definitely check and see whether we can get in there for BFSSFGTO Computrainer Massive 2008. :)

somnambulant 02-14-08 08:00 PM

I'm screwing! I'm screwing!

update: I've been left with nothing but a claw (and a hunchback). 1 tire done, another one ~1/2 done.

Flimflam 02-14-08 10:46 PM

Hehehe, you said screwing...

Hey Ryan - was just wondering where aboots you were, having not heard from DSR/yourself on here recently!

Great vid, too - that girl is amazing - having now run fixed for a whopping two weeks (so you know, I'm totally experienced now and all that ;)) I can appreciate the l33t skillz needed for that kind of stuff - I wonder what bike/components she uses.

Can I get all the details about this ice race tomorrow? when, where, etc. I think I've convinced a friend to come and watch it with me, but I don't know the details.

cavit8 02-15-08 07:23 AM

The always enjoyable icycle studded tire race is on again this year. Location is Dufferin Grove Park on February 16th @ 6pm. Studded racing and the always hilarious rubber match. Thrills, spills and hopefully chills. For more information call 416-532-6392. This event brought to you by The Bike Joint.

Thanks!

Also, for those of you who haven't seen one of the best shows on tv, CTV is starting season 1, episode 1 of Dexter on Sunday night at 10. It's an amazing show, so if you haven't checked it out, I'd suggest trying it out.

Flimflam 02-15-08 07:39 AM

Dexter isn't bad, though it didn't get me hooked in - I watched the first 3 or 4 of the first series.

Looks like I'm riding up to Sutton/wherever on Lake Simcoe, so I probably won't be back in town for the ice race, so have tons of fun everyone :D

Just wanted to post the results of my winter "mini-project".. this is my first attempt at a wheel build, and I think it turned out ok. Parts = nothing special as I was doing this on the cheap -- an old "new 105" hub laced 3x to a 32h alex da22 (decal removal in progress).. but it was definitely a learning experience. A combination of barnett's manual and Carey's advice got me through the lacing, and I'm still twiddling with the truing. I compared tension to some other wheels and it seems ok, but I may swing by a shop that has a tensionmeter just to make sure.

Ok.... I have been really bored this week, so I rattle canned the Cyclops and threw on a box of track components that I had in a box under my bed. http://velospace.org/node/4194
jk....

BTW... ANDREW WK continues to be my hero. Saw the one and only Nick Brown rocking out on stage with 200 of his closest friends. And Cannice too!

Anyone know of any good ice patches that are accessible by bike? Preferably west end and not dufferin grove. Is grenadier pond frozen?

I carried mine over to the local rink but it's only 2 blocks away. If you have an outdoor rink close by, just wait till about 15 minutes till closing time and get out there. Rink's with a boarded rink and a pleasure skating suface are the best. When I went out last night there were about 12 guys playing hockey but the skating rink was empty. The rink guard couldn't even be bothered to leave the rink house. The hockey players got a chuckle out of me tearing around.

I_bRAD 02-15-08 09:37 AM

Also- aside from Wes, how are y'all getting your rigs there on Saturday?

I think my closest local rink is actually dufferin grove... or mcormick. Both bad options. I'll have to look harder I guess

nerdsgirth 02-15-08 09:44 AM

This goes out to JEt Sanchez : http://fixedgeargallery.com/2008/feb/2/ChrisRothery.htm White and black.
