Sugar cookies+homemade icing+confectioners sugar=some wired kids. Good thing someone else gets to teach them after my class.

Seems the weather has cleared. Time for a ride.

At least, I got a new bike today, thanks to the guys over at Cycle Solutions. My 2008 Paddy Wagon was delivered to me this evening. After the rain subsided I rode it to a party nearby, and on the way back I had my first (of surely many) 0 mph fallover when I had the bright idea that I could come to a stop and try riding backwards in a straight line in the middle of a conversation. I didn't get more than a few inches before I was on my ass laughing. No nicks in the spotless paint, but I'm not too worried about that. It's going to get scratched eventually, so I might as well not waste too much energy keeping it perfect.

For now I'm stuck with $7.50 "Lucky" pedals and cheap Zefal MTB clips. My GR-9s are on their way from Japan. I'll keep the plastic clips for awhile cause they're pretty durable, and the Marinoni straps until they delaminate. Then I'll start upgrading whatever as my needs and budget arise. For now, I'm just basking in the new-bike glow.

Anybody want to go for a ride and watch me look foolish? I'm free Sunday.

My bike's name is Principal Spinner. :D

Congrats on the new steed Ty! Nothin' better than a new bike. I'm dying for a road rig so I can attempt the Donut. If it weren't for the climbs I would even possibly attempt it fixed. Has anyone rode it fixed before?

Anyone have a set of old not so totally wicked track drops? My ceiling on this is about $25 as they'll be chopped and messed with. I'm making v2.0 of those weirdo bars I rode for a while at the beginning of the summer.

i have a set of drops you can have. they're ergo road drops though and have little valleys for brake cables. they're made of space aged aluminum. you can have them for one cup of finely brewed coffee.

canice 09-15-07 08:27 AM

is cavern open today? and if so between what times?

Thanks dude, but the shape is really important and that's not the shape I'm looking for. I will however, still take you up on the coffee anywho. We shall ride.

And speaking of shape, thanks for helping with the specs shopping yesterday. Heh. The new ones are crazy ******* cool. Custom fit Ti and everything. Pure eye bling.

No reason why you can't try it fixed; what's the worst that can happen? i'm sure i've heard of guys riding it fixed in the past, especially in the winter.

I'm here, albeit with a bit of a fat head.....I want to bail by 5 tho.

jeremywhitehorn 09-15-07 10:08 AM

In case anyone was in need of some new shorts or all around "cycling support", get em here.

You don't need a road rig to do the donut. Choose the correct gear ratio. It's a tempo ride from start to Keele then it ramps up to Saturday morning world chamipionship speeds as it goes north.

Stop at grandmas bakery just next to Lake Wilcox and then it's a really fast ride back. There are multiple routes and if the pack is big enough (as it should be seeing as its summer) it usually splits into groups at different speeds.

Different routes are also taken by different groups. Just try it, just make sure you're ready for a hammerfest.

I run about 75 gear inches, you usually get dropped a bit on the downhills but it's really no biggie.

cavernmech 09-15-07 12:50 PM

Some things about being a mechanic I will miss. Like watching how excited a little girl is at getting her training wheels off...and then seeing her tear around in the park across the street. Good times.

Tyler M 09-15-07 01:39 PM

Cavernmech: I've been meaning to ask, and this must have been covered here but I missed it, but I've seen allusions (like above) to Cavern closing shop. Is that true?

The rumours are true. I am gloriously moving on to greener pastures. A big part of the reason I was not here on Monday when you stopped by.

Well, I hope because of the way you put it that means the change is a good one. When are you closing? I'll be sure to bring any business I have your way before it's too late.

I love watching really fast/smooth (they usually go hand-in-hand) bmx riders.. check out Mike Day on the Beijing Olympic track.. nutzoid!

The people who made this http://www.velotees.com/index.php are making a bikefourms t-shirt.

Danhalen 09-15-07 05:37 PM

That shirt is kind of funny but here's the thing. If enough people buy it, then newcomers will think that it is the thing to do. More people mashing a big gear means more people who **** up their knees and can't stop.

I want to move to an island and get away from all of this trendy nonsense. Trendiness (in general) is so annoying. ugh.

Oh and I saw the Adidas bike today on Queen. See above.

Oh man now it's me who needs a hug.

Dont think that will happen.

It’s just a t-shirt.

I'd love to have that bike in my garage.

Not from me!

Anybody know where I can purchase some nuts for a rear Campy track hub?

Like these
http://130.94.226.209/Chrome/Nail/161.jpeg

I tried Bicycle Specialties and Biseagal with no luck.

cavit8 09-15-07 06:48 PM

Campy-compatible which isn't the same, exactly, and mail order

Ill Mitch 09-15-07 07:26 PM

Thanks for the link, but I'd prefer to buy locally if possible.

Also, it doesn't have to be an actual campagnolo nut, as long as it looks similar and has 10X26 threading it'll be good.

I prolly have a couple...I will check for you on Monday.

Have any of you guys ever seen/used the nitehawk alx/k2 digital emitter? Any thoughts to comparison vs a 10w/20w halogen setup?

I know for sure as hell the ALX's claim of "10w halogen equivalent" is total bull****. I've seen a 10w halogen before and it's nowhere close to that brightness.
