Can I run a 1/8" chain over any chainring in the front, or does it have to be wider? If I can get away with just using the existing chainring in the front (the one I was sold), with the BMX 18T cog in the rear, by buying a new chain, I might go that route.

Sure you can, 1/8 & 3/32 = width, I'm pretty sure all pins are spaced 1/2" on all bike chains regardless of width. If it doesn't seem to mesh as you say, it'll squish itself around there when you put a bit of torque on it. Ideally they're all teh same (your drive components) but they don't need to be

edit: n/m cavern beat me to it

I hate to bring business into the forum, but I am wondering if Under the Weather makes custom (color) top tube pads/protectors. I just got my new Paddy Wagon and I like it a lot. I'm not worried about the bars hitting (I still have both brakes) or the paint, but when I lock up I'm worried as hell somebody is going to dent up the nice tube. Probably just new-bike paranoia. I think a nice goldenrod yellow would complement the stock paint pretty well. I'm also in the market for a bigger bag than the eight-year-old Banana Republic designer bag I got as a gift in high school. That will have to wait until the budget expands, though.

On a humorous side-note, a TT pad would have come in handy the other night, when my curious girlfriend decided to try riding fixed on my 60cm frame. She didn't once have trouble adjusting until she went to get off and, err, tried to straddle the too-tall frame. In her words, "I forgot I can't stand up on boy bikes!"

We do, our colours page is here: http://www.under-the-weather.ca/colours/ and you can have it made in any material there, 1000D or 500D Cordura, Ballistic or even vinyl. Choose outer colour (any) inner colour (500d only) trim colour & thread colour. Then just determine pad length & tube diameter including braze-ons/cable stops. nvm I have a paddywagon. Then email it to me on the site :)

Or check in at Sweet Pete's and La Carrera, they have some pads in stock.

Is that the new Paddywagon colour you've got or the dark green/teal like I've got?

Great! Thanks for the info. It's the new color-way, a light gray with white bar behind the KONA name. It's a really fresh looking bike. Before I bought the bike I had all sorts of ambitious plans to paint it and whatnot, but now that I have it, I want to keep the stock paint, because it looks so nice. They've picked a very classy scheme. My girlfriend says the bike is so smooth, she named it "Steely Dan: The Bike." I don't think she even knows the frame is steel. I decided to keep the name.

I may be down for that as well - grown up responsibilities dependant. I've never been out there either. What time are you thinking?

Ah, yes -- the Church of the SubGenius. It has all but died as a known internet meme. I try to forget that the smiley face is J.R. "Bob" Dobbs (remember never to forget the quotation marks) because I think it's a funny image in its own right. Usually if I smoke some habafropzipulops it isn't too hard to forget anything.

Curious, how open are the guys here to letting a new guy in on a ride (me)? I might be interested at the end of the month - when I stop working two jobs...

I'm in for a ride. Are we taking hills or more flat. My knee has been arguing with my bike the past few weeks when I ride.

You can certainly use the ring you have with 1/8 chain and cog. Again S.S. rings without pins and ramps will work better but what you have should be fine.

What time are you open to in the week these days?

If you're heading to the bluffs, you can count on hills!

It kind of depends. If the weather is nice I leave early. Best to call before you head down. I would call my current hours "sporadic"

Did you come across any of them track nuts Keith?

iherald 09-18-07 02:32 PM

Keith, are the Hed wheels ready? If so, I might come by tomorrow morning. When are you open?

I have a small pile....just don't have a 10x26 thread axle to check em. I will figure it out and drop em off at C.S.

Holy inquiries Batman. I havnt had a good opportunity to check em out. Thursday A.M. would prolly be best. Oh yeah...one of the axle caps is missing from the front one....do you have it? Hard to do much with it unless I get it from you. They can't be ridden without it as well.

you don't have to go to trouble of that, I could just come by and try some different ones on my hub.

are you done at the shop for the day?

No idea.. whatever time is convinient for everyone else. Earlier probably isn't such a bad idea just so that we can get some light. Sunset is at 7:30 now. :(

Thursday's no problem, I'm just going to ahve a car so it would be been easier to get them tomorrow. What's an Axle cap? is that on the quick release? If it's not, I likely don't have it. Can you order me one (assuming it's not going to cost me $8000)
